Default Trackball Replacement?

Please Login to Remove!

I am about to receive my third Tour because of trackball issues. The Tour is one of the best phones I have ever owned. I am really frustrated over the trackball performance. It seems that the ball becomes loose and that is what causes the horizontal tracking problem. Is there a possibilty that the trackball could be replaced by the trackpad as seen on the 9700?

Tours built through 8/19 have a component flaw. Verizon will replace it. Call customer service. Be absolutely sure to get one built on 8/20 or later and you should be golden. This is not a rumor, but confirmed both at the store and on the customer service line.

I thought the guy said it was behind the battery, but I can't find anything there.

Looking at the back of the battery door, it has printed:

17709033G.

Could it be that this translates to 07/17/09 manufacturing date, which would make sense for my device?

I bought a Tour on day 2 of their release, on Sprint. I had the trackball problem, but rather than exchange it and set up a new one I replaced the trackball myself. I bought an aftermarket trackball from CNN.CN, in my favorite orange color, and did the install in about 10 minutes. That includes watching the youtube video.

No troubles since the procedure, and my Tour is my favorite BlackBerry I've owned so far.

I just ordered my replacement from sprint they said they will exchange it under warranty. the main reason i did that is if you do it now you get a new one and not a refurbished one and i did manage to get some scratches on the side already so i get a brand new one for nothing... and i do hope it fix's the trackball issue...

I do not believe that the numbers on the battery door is a manufacture date since mine make no sense.

Becareful with Sprint we had a user that got one new out of the box and it was actually a reburb. Go to your options>about>and go through those first lines of txt and make sure it does not have a refurb date.

Just got two Tours from VZ with the Buy One Get One Free program and I just noticed that the trackball on my device is more recessed then my wife's. I had a Tour when it first came out and returned it because at the time I didn't feel it was worth the upgrade. I'm wondering if my Tour is from an older batch, my wife's trackball feels much better....ha.

Yeah you might have got an older one. Mine is up higher on my fourth one rather than my first three. And have had no problems yet. *Fingers crossed*

rambo, is the trackball you installed recessed or did it help raise it slightly? I have to say that my trackball does not lag at all compared to the one I had in July but it's just too low. I'm hoping Verizon will just let me swap the Tour I received today since my wife's trackball sits much higher than mine.

Did VZ give you a hard time when exchanging your BBs?

Um only hiccup was when I turned in my second one douche guy at the store said he didn't have any instock and had to order one. But he order me a refurb so I went to another store and they took the refurb and gave me a brand new one. And that is the one I have had since and its been good. So not really no they are pretty cool about it. You got yours with bestbuy though right? You are going to have to go through them. Verizon won't do it if you bought through someone else.

Nevermind...not sure why I thought you got them through bestbuy. Might have been mixing forums. Yeah just go to the store and they will swap it out. They have that worry free guarantee and they don't wanna go back on that. Just saying you got the older model with trackball issues and you want a newer one.

well, my ocd kicked in and I went to the VZ store and got a new Tour, not refurbed. The trackball on the new one seems slightly more pronounced but I still think my wife's is better. It works fine with no lag so I'm just going to keep it. I'm sure if I didn't have two to compare, i wouldn't have even noticed.

Thanks again.
