Smile 8gb Micro SD Card

Please Login to Remove!

Though this may be old news to others I have tested completely and am glad to inform all of you that all functions work when using a SDHC 8gb micro sd card with your blackberry. The phone recognizes the size and is able to store any information on it, format it, and read all media or other applications stored on it. Even better news reports of 16gb SDHC micro sd cards have been discovered and products should be expected by the end of 2008.

Well, it shouldn't work. Have you loaded 4gb of music on it yet?

I guess another site had posted the OS 4.3 beta a couple days ago. He may have gotten that in the short time it was up.

Probably - I have 4.2.2.184 OS with 8gb card and it only recognizes 4gb. I saw that 4.3 beta link, but haven't messed with it. I have enough issues without beta / buggy OS stuff.

8gb storage sounds sweet though! Wildlemon, are you running 4.3 beta OS?

I apologize for not stating this in the initial post but I am running the 4.3 beta OS. Hopefully this will clear up any doubt. I am working on having some picture proof in the next few days.

Beta was posted for a short amount of time. It is not available anymore. OS 4.5 should be out soon though.

Getting 4.3 was simply right place at the right time. I have already abandoned it because it is just a beta and though the new features are nice I need it to run smoothly. As everyone says, the 4.5 will be out soon and then it will be worth upgrading again. I was also disappointed to encounter the error that others had spoken of where only 4gb of the memory on my 8gb card is discovered.

Default v4.3 is on the BB download site

Maybe I am missing something, but v4.3 b25 is available to download right from the 8310 support site. Is it okay? I have it and don't notice any problems. I was going to buy an 8GB card but they are so expensive...won't a 4GB load faster? I'm thinking an 8GB microSD card may bog down the internal memory (not sure if "ram" is the correct translation)?

I only have the 8300 so no advise on downloading the the OS. I would strongly suggest playing ebay for a micro sd card though. After waiting about 1 week I picked one up for about $45 , brand name (sandisk) and it showed up in 2 days time still in unopened packaging.

Default difference between microSD and microSDHC ?

Found some 8GB cards online for $50-$60 range, but they are microSDHC. Is there a difference between "regular" SD cards and SDHC (high capacity)?

You want the microSDHC. HC stands for High Capacity. I believe anything 4gb & over is all SDHC now. I might be wrong... but I have the 8gb SDHC. With shipping it was within a couple of dollars of $60. I bought from either Amazon or Buy.com. I can't remember which and used Google checkout coupon.

I think anything about 2GB is SDHC. Semantics though, I've never seen a 3 GB card.

George, that v4.3 b25 is the Desktop Software, it's not the Phone Software. v4.3/v4.5 Phone software has not been released yet.

Hmm, didn't think of that, thanks. I think I spend all my non-CrackBerry time on this forum! My life was so much easier and I had free Saturdays back in the days of pulse dial telephones, standard V8's with a carburetor, and my toy was a Tandy ping-pong game! Of course, I also had a Betamax
