It really depends on what you want to use it for.

Even if you don't check email on it, I think it is still a great organizer tool for calendar events, tasks, etc. but that's my opinion.

Without the BB Data Plan, you will have a phone and SMS message ability, no other data, internet, e-mail, etc.

keep in mind sure you don't have web browsing or email, but you still have the capabilities of a PDA - calender, task list, memo pad, and any other app you decide to load. im with rogers and i've cut my data for awhile. i dont feel handicapped by it - at least not yet.

Your probably better off finding something better suited to your needs then a really cool BlackBerry for SMS. I've said it more than once, if you're looking to do the BlackBerry thing on the cheap its not possible.

I think the PIM portion could be worthwhile, but you'd be missing alot. There are other phones that allow you to sync contacts and send SMS, but the Pearl is really easy to use...

My wife and I both have Pearls, got them for free from Wirefly, we do not pay for the data plan and they work great. I listen to a lot of MP3s and watch videos on it. So was it worth $0.00? I would have to say yes. Now, would I pay $200 for what I use it for, probably not.

yeah its worth it. many great features you can still use on the pearl without getting a data plan. if you dont have the need to check hundreds of emails a day then its all good. if you're a practical user than it'll give you more than what you need.

i do blackberry on the cheap. atleast i think i do compared to everybody else. but i wish i got it for free like that guy ^

it all depends on what you do with your pearl... i use the data plan for my surfing the net, when I am stuck while my wife is doing the groceries or in the mall... i use it for my personal and company email and other things, mainly surfing the net. For me it's $20 a month, that about about 60 cents a day... worth it... I have the Tmobile 1000 minute plan with the data plan... I don't need more minutes since I use the data plan for all my work and communicating...

I drive a lot. Gotta have BB internet on BBmaps or Google Maps for direction.
receiving work, school, and personal email is a plus. the perks: able to browse mobile version site like fandango, flickr, and bank of america

If you think it's worth it, then it's worth it! You can still SMS/MMS, PIN, Phone, Calendar, Tasks, Memo ect.....

I NEED a data plan for my needs and it's *not* because of email OR internet use.... I need it because I love BBWeather, Pocketday Sports, and Berry411... Plus I use SyncJe to sync up since I am on Linux.....

Can you still use PIN without a BB Data Plan? Just wondering, I've never tried it because I have always had a BBDP, but I have always read on here PIN would not work without the plan.

Makes the time pass soooooo much faster. Plus I can divert any clothing questions that'll get me in trouble. . i.e. " how do i look. . ". Def. worth the 20 bucks. Try out the data plan for a month. If its not for you, cancel. I must warn though, once you get the data plan, it'll be very hard to part with it to say the least
