Default DNS Exception with BES

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 150 users with Blackberry Curves that need to access a particular application. I want to alter the DNS resolution of one particular host as seen by the Curves. So let's say that normally foghorn.iyoyo.com resolves to 8.4.77.22. Now let's say that for my Curve users *only* - I want foghorn.iyoyo.com to resolve to 10.10.10.111. What would be the steps to effect this? I attempted going to the BES server and adding "10.10.10.111 foghorn.iyoyo.com " C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. But this did not seem to work. Additionally is there an equivilant of an nslookup tool for the curve? Thank you.

is this on your LAN or the internet?

if on OS 5 with the curves, what default browser are you using as BES will only define the BlackBerry browser.

BES is on the LAN. When the blackberries connect to the BES it is akin to a VPN. The Curves can access internal apps.

We are running OS 5 and the Blackberry browser. Thanks.

"10.10.10.111 foghorn.iyoyo.com

is this LAN or a WAN website?

If LAN all you need to do is change your internal DNS records for it.

10.10.10.111 foghorn.iyoyo.com is a LAN address. iyoyo.com is an external dns zone hosted at network solutions. Inside we have zone iyoyo.local in DNS. Is there a way to have internal DNS resolve foghorn.iyoyo.com but let all other *.iyoyo.com resolve outside as usual?

I'm a little surprised the host file change didn't do the trick - the BB's do use the BES as a proxy in a way. I mean we get blocked by Trend as if we were surfing from the BES itself. You sure the dns cache was flushed? Does the host file change for the BES itself?

Make a copy of the external zone, and add it to your internal DNS server. Then manually change the needed records.
I dont know of any automated way to do this. But, if you do not frequently change your DNS entries, this will work.
