Default Password Policy: phone exception?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm pretty new to BES, so please excuse my newbie ignorance, as appropriate.
;)

We're using BES for Exchange and recently implemented a password policy with a 60 minute timeout to relock the devices. Negative feedback from the end users was typical for the organization: only a few complained about the policy, but they complained loudly.

In particular, we had multiple complaints regarding having to enter a password in order to receive incoming calls. I found the policy change to make an exception for outbound calls, but didn't find anything related to inbound calls.

Is there an easy (or at least effective!) way to implement a security policy that protects the potentially sensitive data that is being stored on the handheld, while NOT requiring a password for phone use, particularly incoming calls?

Thanks for your help!

Users should not have to type a password to receive incoming calls. If they are try updating the handheld software.

What Bes Server are you running? I would suggest, like the above user upgrading your handheld software to at least 4.0 or 4.1 dending on model of the handheld. If your Bes server will support. You can also check the handhelds and make sure that this isn't a local policy. But as you know anything you can push out from the Bes makes life easier.

Thanks for the info -- I'll check it out and see if updating the handheld software fixes the problem.

We're a university with some departments that have very decentralized IT support, so we have a variety of cell/data service providers to deal with -- and some departments that cannot (or won't) support their faculty Blackberry devices.

Thanks, again, for the info!
