Default What do i need here? SBS08 and BES

Please Login to Remove!

So we are phasing out the old sbs03 server and setting up a new sbs08 server (new hardware and everything)

my question is this when we originally setup the sbs03 server maybe 3 years ago we used a product that i am pretty sure was called BES express (designed for small business) the first lic was free and then we paid $99 fo each additional user lic. now i got to BB.com to download the latest version and i see there is a new BES 5.0, but from what i understand you cant run this on sbs as it requires a dedicated server? so i look and i find BES pro and BES pro express but there is no longer a BES express? Also then i find that there is no 64bit version for running on SBS? and these are still the old 4.x softwares will there not be a 5.0 for small buisness? can i still use my old bes express lic that i bought for the old server or do i need new cal's? what version of BES do i need for the just about 5-10 users and running on sbs?

HELP! sorry for all the question it is just confusing now with all the versions and no clear explanation from rim of version needed!

thank you in advance!

You can still use the version you bought, but you will need a server or VM to run it on since it does not support SBS 2008.

It Doesn't Work / Isn't Supported With Sbs2008 On The Same Server.

End Of Story.

even a year after sbs08 release there isnt a version for sbs? so everyone who has sbs either has a second server running or the old version sbs2003? does anyone know if it is in the pipeline soon or is rim just decided to avoid the small med market?

Why dont you go the way knottyrope already suggested ?
get a used license of server 2003, must be about $200 or less.
install vmware or hyper-V on your SBS2K8, install the 2003 server and the BES/BPS
both products are free.

Or install Vmware ESX ( also free), and then one instance of SBS2008 + the server 2003

Installation of vmware is a klick and go experience. You dont need to know more then some IT basics to get up and running.

And, you have the advantage of seamless migration to other hardware when you use a virtual machine.

Agreed, having played with VM briefly it is very much a click and go experience to get it up and running. Suppose it took me half a day to get it to the point where I am happy using it, albeit for test purposes only.
