Does anyone know of a server side command line utility that can be used to reset device passwords? RIM says the only way to reset device passwords is through Blackberry Manger, however, I would think there was a third party util out there somewhere that would allow this.

The bottom line is, I do not want users calling me when they need a password reset... I want to give the Help Desk this capability w/o handing over the keys to the kingdom!

download the Resource Kit from RIM. the BBUserAdminblahblah command has the ability to do so now.

I have the RK installed, but I only see a way to reset a user's activation password, not the security password on thier device. Any ideas?

I just pushed an IT Policy this morning that is forcing password protection on all devices, that's the password that I need to reset.

Being able to manually change or read the password is kind of defeating the security on the device. Its there for a reason

It looks like the activation password is stored in clear text on our SQL server.

Not if you're restricting execution of the program to certain users or a group of users. BES Manager already has the ability to do this, but I need to be able to do this from the command line, not from the Management console.

This is fine since this is only the activation password... not a security password. The activation password expires after 48 hours anyway.

If you install the Blackberry Manager console on another PC (such as a terminal server or a PC that your 1st level techs access), you can then control the access they have to that console. Using the setadminkey command line tool (found on BES CD) you can limit the access on that station to full, policy or user access.

At my company I have the blackberry manager console installed on a terminal server (it's just an mcc snapin anyways). I have limited access to "policy access" so they (1st level techs) can change password, add users, etc..., but not change IT policies, not have to terminal into the BES itself (and click 'shutdown' instead of 'log off' - this happens all the time...)
