Question BES email deletion sync time?

Please Login to Remove!

BES 4.0.1.13
W2003 SP1

I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'll ask anyway.

Our Blackberry users send and receive emails almost instantly, however the deletion reconciliation takes up to 15 minutes. The only way to get them in sync faster is to do a manula "reconcile now" on the BB.

Is this behaviour normal? Is there ANY way to change it to automatic?

(The users aren't using outlook cached mode)

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Thats the way it works by design.

Rescan of deleted items and read flags is low priority.

I am not aware of any way to change that.

I figured as much. This is very annoying for my users.

I bet there's a reg hack out there somewhere, I've looked through HKLM...RIM but I can't see anything. I would love to speak to a BES dev.

Don't know if RIM would want you to know this, but it seems like the time intervals are in the MbConnectorGlobals table in the SQL database. You could use enterprise manage to change the values to what you want them to be, just make sure you have a backup first.

If you increase the email rec times you will just kill your BES. Do your users constantly compare the BlackBerry to Outlook to make sure it's been updated?
This is just a wetware issue.

Unhappy

Well the one guy that complains the most, has an email and PDA fetish. The problem is he owns the company. I guess when you have a private helicopter and jet, your Blackberry becomes a big issue.

I let him know it's working as normal, nothing else I can do except move to some kind of windows mobile device hooked straight into Exchange.

Thanks for your responses.

Default Delete sync time

Well I can tell you for a fact that windows devices take even longer to sync up. I get users complaining often about this and tell me it's not working .. my response is you have enough time to sit there and watch you emails delete you don't have enough work.

If it's such an issue and money is not an object put this guy on a BES by himself .. process should run almost constantly.

They can Reconcile Now to force it.

I have a feeling the more users the BES has the higher the interval as well...

Default BES Email deletion

Hi Folks,
I have been experiencing the same issue here as well (when email gets deleted in the device it takes a long time for it to get reconsile. From my users experience they claim that the 7290 does not have this problem only the 8700 model has this problem. Any ideas ??

No, I don't believe it is device specific. My 7520's all take somewhere between a few minutes and 20 minutes to reconcile deleted and read items. Depends on current server usage. I agree with jletendre, they need more work if they have enough time to notice it being that big of a problem.

The only time it becomes an issue for me is when my users delete their deleted items folder before the bb has reconciled.

This is what we call the '15 minute rule' where the BES reconciles changes including deleted items, emails marked as read/unread etc every 15 minutes.

As someone has indicated you can force this by clicking on 'reconcile now' on the device.

This is by design on the BES and it affects all device types.

Yes, if you want quicker auto reconciliation you could look at using a windows mobile mobile device with Exchnage 2003.

Haven't seen the database setting that is described earlier but would agree that you would be unwise to mess with this.

Try to make them understand the the BB is supposed to be a remote device. You use it when you're not in front of your computer so the delay does not matter.
