Default BES 10 Installation Problems

Okay I am trying to install BB10 server on a 2008 R2 enterprise server that has a clean install. So I go to install it and get this message at the SQL creation of the database.

BES 10 an attempt to connect the database was unsuccessful.

I followed this link and surprise surprise it doesn't work.

Anyone else have this problem? It seems I have nothing but problems with installing BES and can't find any help online that actually works. It seems I had all kinds of problems back when I tested BB Fusion and just gave up on it. Come on now RIM make your installations easier will you?

Well I got past that message by uninstalling it and now it won't take the CAL. It worked on the first install and now it's saying not valid. Ughhh

Okay so I registered again and got a new CAL and same thing. I'm thinking I wasted enough time with this for now.

CAl for UDS or BDS? they are different.

I used the correct one. After uninstalling everything for the second time the CAL for BES10 worked but now when installing the UDS I am getting an error "The setup application could not make a connection to the SRP host to validate the SRP data that you specified". When clicking on verify on both the SRP host and identifier it tests successfully and also verifies. I don't know why they make it such a pain and it has so many problems especially for what the device CAL's are.

So tried with a new SRP and got past it and now it's saying I need .net 4.0 which I already have installed. I don't get all these issues and yes I have rebooted after .net 4.0 was installed.

So uninstalled .net 4.0 and reinstalled and tried the UDS again and it took the CAL and then it got to the part where it can't connect to the database. This is just unbelievable.

Okay got to the part they needed some sort of certificate. Of course I don't have that so I think tomorrow I'll wipe out this server because it's just as many problems as we had with Fusion last year and were not able to get help from anyone at RIM. Not to impressed that's for sure.

I may give it a shot I believe I get unlimited tech support as I work for a carrier. It's just amazing how much of a pain this is. I think exchange server was easier to install.

my BES 10 was easy, 30 min and actvated a device

some ties there are some variables in people environments that can confilct with BES installs

UDS is not that simple to install compared to the BDS services. Starts with the certificate, then if remember the manual correct, you need a free IP Adresse with port 443 (which I do not have at home because OWA needs one, and, my webserver another).

But BDS is simple to install.

GrandMstrBud, do you really need the UDS service ?

Yes we have we more android devices than blackberries. We used to have all 40 licenses full but now I think 5 as so many have switched to android devices.

When did RIM start outsourcing overseas? I had to explain and repeat my number and error code about 3-4 times.

BlackBerry has many types of people working for them.

Much of their BES support is done right in Canada. I got a tour of the building a few years ago.

They do have offices around the world and maybe when one is busy they off load to another.

you do have to choice to ask to speak to a diff rep

It's when you first call in whoever creates the ticket are the people who must be outsourced but once I got an actual RIM tech I could tell they are from Canada. On another note another install on a fresh 2008 R2 server of BB 10.1 and it fails again. I think I'm ready to pull the plug on this one. I must say not very impressed at all with BB10 or 10.1. Earlier versions installed just fine but it's one error after another followed by another on this

I was very frustrated at first, then things started to come together. I almost the same problem. During the 1st install, there was a problem with the SRP so the Dispatcher wouldn't start. Since changing SRP's is a real PITA, I decided to uninstall & reinstall. I had database issues on the second install as it didn't pre-populate the SQL server data like it had in the 1st install. I finally got it connected, but then it had a problem because the BESMgmt database already existed. So I had to drop the database from SQL, and the installer was then able to proceed. After the install and some basic configuration I was able to get a playbook activated successfully.

I've got a Q10 and Z10 coming tomorrow, so I'll see how that goes. I was a bit hesitant to jump into OS 10 and BES 10, but I figure better sooner than later.
