Default IT Policy Recommendations

Please Login to Remove!

Heya,

I currently have pretty much the default IT policy, with a little bit more restrictions, however Im having users that are using their blackberry's as modems, now yes its nice that they can do that, but my Manager would rather not have that, is the setting to prevent this as simple as checking off the "Diable IP Modem" check box?

I currently have default, plus automatic locking while holstered, and no, unfortunatley I dont have a mandatory password set on it, but my manager doesnt want that. (I am aware of the security problems with that, but its not my choice, I may admin the server, but those kind of decisions aren't mine to make.)

I do have that as a recommendation as our IT policy, but do any of you guys have anything else, that is a good idea to have set in the policy?

Every policy setting can make sense in some environment. If it was for everyone the same, they didn't make it configurable. In most firms it is not (omly) the IT Manager, but the Security Officer how looks and define the policy.

Regards,
Bob

Then just my original question, will checking off "Disable IP Modem" should prevent users from using it as a modem correct?

I have set the disable ip modem to true, and it still allows me to use my BB as a modem.

Is there another setting that needs to be set for this to be disabled?

I did reapply the pollicy.

It worked either way it was set.

The pollicy was set to disable the ip modem and I was still able to use it as a modem. I then set it to false and it worked as I expected. I then reapplied the pollicy to diable the ip modem thinking the pollicy just need to be reapplied and it still works as a modem.

The policy does take priority over carrier settings, right?

Any insight would be helpfull.
