I have recently upgraded BES from 3.6 to 4. few users have a peculiar contacts setup - they would have lots of contacts in the root folder and then a couple of subfolders under contacts. In these subfolders they would have same contacts over and over again. So now when they synchronize to the server they get duplicate record under blackberry contacts. Is there any way to tell BES which contacts folder to pick up? (FYI, I have enabled 'No duplicates' option on the Blackberry).

Nope. BES will pick up the default contact folder and all its subfolders. The only way for subfolder to not be sync'd is if you move it out from under the default.

This applies for Calendar, Tasks, and Memopad also.

Rather than subfolders with the same contacts appearing multiple time, have them use categories in Outlook. Each contact can have any number of predefined or user-defined categories, which would take the place of the subfolders and eliminate duplicates on the BES and handheld. If the devices have OS 4.1, they can then filter by those categories on the device (if an earlier OS, they cannot).

Generally the BES will sync any contacts folder that is specified as an Outlook Address Book.

Try going in to the properties of the sub folders and then unticking 'Show this folder as Address Book'.

This may not clear the duplicates so you may have to manually clear the contacts database but the sub folder shouldn't sync again.
