Default BIS and sub-folders - where do we stand?

I've been doing an "extended audition" of an iPhone for a while now and while it certainly does everything I want it to do, I'm just not excited by it. That's quite odd considering I'm a Mac fanboy and use Macs at home almost exclusively. The biggie for me with the iPhone is wireless sync for contacts/calendar. Keeping my mobile in the Mac ecosystem, since that's what I've built at home, is a no-brainer. But I'm just not passionate about the iPhone like I've been with BlackBerrys and I'm looking for reasons to change back.

What I'd really like to know is if there has been any change with recent BIS upgrades and the newer OS 7/7.1 to include sub-folder access? Or is it still a BES-only feature?

I keep hoping it will be added in with each update to BIS. Looks like my wait continues...
