Hi All

I'm looking for a bit of advice as to the best method to migrate from Exch 2010 to 2013. Basically I cannot have any BES outage at all, I know I need to build a new BES server for Exch 2013 mailboxes with all the patches and new CDO/MAPI etc etc

What I'm confussed about is the BESAdmin account that resides on 2010, I know I need to move it to 2013 but what happens if the mailbox migration is phased? If I move the besadmin to exch 2013 mailbox will it still work on exch 2010 and also 2013? should I create BesAdmin2 for Exch2013 only and leave BesAdmin on 2010?

The environment is quite complex with over 1000 mailboxes and around 700 BB Users, so we cannot do it one weekend and be done with it, migration will be over a few weeks, so will be running co-existence exchange 2010 and 2013 together for around 2 months until we decommission.

Has anyone done this type of migration before - must be someone, but I just cannot find anything online that answers my questions.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What happened with the BEsAdmin account in the end? what did you do? I have the same worries about breaking the 2010 BES if I move the BESAdmin account to 2013 - Its impossible for me to migrate all in one go as the users are all over the world and would prefer to do them slowly to ensure all is OK, so I need 2 servers, therefore does that equal 2 x BESAdmin Accounts? Or can a BESAdmin on 213 also work on 2010 mailboxes?

Note: I'm using BES Express so I do not have any licensing concerns.

Update and My new issue

Basically I followed knottyrope's advise and created a new Besadmin account (BESAdmin2)

Setup a new BES server and did all the configuration as per KB33406

Email working fine
contacts syncing fine
calendar still not working

I have followed both KB20157 and KB29946 and KB33408 to get the calendar working but this is proving to be a nightmare.

Getting the following in the MAGT logs

Receiving packet from device, size=85, TransactionId=1133141289, Tag=328, content type=CICAL, cmd=0x3
HandleAppointmentToSynchronize-Entering-Tag=328
Receiving calendar update from device, RefId=493423553, Tag=328, TransactionId=1133141289
Synchronize() failed: ERR_FAIL, Tag=328
-HandleAppointmentToSynchronize-Exit-rc=Error
SubmitToRelaySendQ, Tag=328

tried deleting the EWS url via the trait tool and reapplying it but still the same, I have restarted the controller service and allowed the min 15 mins for the replication to occur, but still no joy

Anyone have any ideas?

The test mailbox we are using is on 2013 - currently its in co-existance with 2010, I have around 1500 Users on Exch2010 waiting to move to Exch2013 once the calander issue is resolved.
