Default Blackberry Encryption (security)

Please Login to Remove!

Blackberry does not advertise nor give any information what is secure on their phones or messenging app.

1) what is the meaning of the blackberry logo icon found only on blackberry devices on the screen in the top right corner?

2) messages sent on BBM are they encrypted ? are they more secure then any other instant messaging app ? if so why ?

Im a Blackberry fan, and if Blackberry or BBM offers security is some form that No other device offers then Blackberry should make this front and center to advertise this to the user (public), as Im sure it would be a great selling feature.

ARE THERE ANY GURUs OUT THERE THAT KNOW THESE ANSWERS?

The standard blackberry is encrypted between primary senders. The data is routed via the servers at Blackberry. The bigger question is if the OS10 devices follow the same path. If they do not route encrypted via Blackberry it may be less secure. One thing about security is the OS on any version so far is generally immune to any viruses or other intrusion other cell phones including the Apple and Androids are subject to.

The attached link offers more details. They do indicate the security path is the same for all BB's

To add to the above, see

http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/b...ListHelperImpl

The article describes the security situation for data in transit given the various endpoints. At one time with BBOS and BBM on BlackBerry handsets BBM messages on BIS were "scrambled" and the key was global (same for all). Now that is not strictly true.

From what I understand BBM is as secure or more secure than any competing applications of the same type and intended use. However, I'm by no means an expert.

The BlackBerry logo status icon indicates the device is connected to the BlackBerry network. If not connected then not communicating with Blackberry services.
