I have a Blackberry 8830 World Edition that is CDMA and GSM capable. How do I get it to let me use a GSM sim card. It is defaulting to the CDMA connection.

I believe the 8830 GSM connection will not function in North America, only in Europe. It should then default to it when it's able to function.

The 8830 GSM is 900/1800 MHz only and will not work in North America (which uses 850/1900).

Just in case...

North America uses 850/1900 MHz frequencies for GSM

The Rest Of The World uses 900/1800 MHz frequencies.

The 8830 uses the 900/1800 frequencies.

Therefore, the 8830 can't work on GSM in North America.

Wow! I didn't know that! If it is really imperial and the other being metric, then shouldn't you be able to convert those? But isn't frequency cycles per second? that has nothing to do with the imperial system or the metric system. But, don't stab me, there might be a fine print somewhere.

If BB8830 uses a SDR (SW defined Radio), then it is possible to program teh radio to 900/1800Mhz.

May be a SW Radio engr can throw some light on this.

I don't think you are going to re-program the radio chip in the BlackBerry, that might go agaisnt the security of it
