When I went to the contact I already had an exception, but I couldn't change it from the active profile. Then I went into advanced and created a new custom exception.
I deleted the original exception. It worked perfectly.
it worked in every profile except for one, I am sorry I can't remember which one it was. But thanks for giving me the confidence to experiment.
