Interesting.

Just called Bell, the deal needs to be combined with a $30 voice plan on at least a year commitment. It does indeed include email and internet browsing.

As a Rogers customer it will be interesting to see how they react. I can get out of my current contract for $200 (not $400 b/c we have had the # since 2003) . . . I don't know if I can live with CDMA though . . .

Interesting move on the morning of the new wireless spectrum auction!

Time to shatter this oligopoly. Oh wait, this is Canada- consumers love to be mistreated by government policies,

Let's see if any of these new entrants can make a dent in the mighty Rogers cash flow. Ted has too much money already. Time to spread things around a bit.

I know what you mean GSM is so much better and Rogers selection of phones is far superior... However they only cover 10% of my provience geographically therefore there has aslways been only one option (CDMA)

The $30 plan is truly unlimited except for tethering its about time... It does suck that it isn't offered to people on family share plans but I switched to 2 independant plans and with Bell's Fav 5 I actually get more free calling (there was only 2 of us on the family plan) for the same monthly fee plus i save $30 per month on the data (had the 30gb plan for $60) and $10 for text msg

You can say that I am PLEASED!!!!!

GSM allows me to fuel my addiction easily for shinny hand held metallic devices (or plastic) that go beep!

However $30 unlim. data makes this Canuck smile . . . .

+1 just switched last night, from paying $60 for only 30Mb - talk about more for less!

Hmmm... a thought occurs: I just saw a Fido ad for unlimited email and interenet for $7. So I looked into it, and it appears that Fido's deal is limited to its own phones' built-in browsers - not third party apps like Operamini (or I assume Google Maps Mobile).

Does anyone know if similar rules apply to this new Bell deal? It did sound too good to be true...

alox,

The $30 unlimited data with Bell works in the same manner as what your $60 plan would have.

The Fido and Rogers $7 unlimited on mobile browser is limited to the providers wap browser, specific phones (non PDA) and allowable websites. Although some have been using these plans to acess the internet/mail on BB and Palm ect. Rogers (at least) is now seeking to shut that down starting this past month.

In conversation this week with a few different Bell reps they assured me that this new $30 unlim. plan is good for BB data . . .

Garth

yes frousssy that is their hook the $30 unlim. data needs to be paired with a $30 voice plan -currently that $60 is a much better deal than the $60 for data only (25mb) from Rogers.

Default Woohoo! Ebay and Facebook, here I come...!

When I signed up for my Bell Mobility service, I got unlimited email+4Mb data plan for $25. So today, I upgraded to unlimited data for an extra $5...seems like a deal to me.

BTW jeffmik...the girl handling my account said specifically that it did NOT include tethered modem service. I hope you don't get a nasty surprise down the road....

No problem alox.

By the way Rogers dinged me for just over 2 MB of illegal data-I have the unlimited $7 WAP plan as part of my $20 communication deal. They are obviously charging those who were trying the work around.

Oh, neat. Going to have to revisit my plan to drop into the company corporate data pool and see if it makes more sense to stay out on my own.

$30 voice (currently on $20) + $30 data (currently on $40) + fees; I'll still come out ahead because I will be able to use my BB much more freely!

Hmm, going to have to talk to my corp rep to see if the personal calling plans for corp users are better than the "Uber" plans they offer right now (I get 200 min/voicemail, nights and weekends for $20)... I wonder if tacking on a $10 option would suffice?

Getting a 10$ option wont help..

I have a corp plan, that cost 21$/month. I have ALL options (unlimited sms, voicemail, callerid, per second billing...)

To get a similar plan, it will cost me 75$/month..
