Default Why are HTML codes showing up in my messages?

Please Login to Remove!

I don't have a BlackBerry. I have a Samsung BlackJack from AT&T. Forgive me, not my choice. My friend has a BlackBerry 8300, also served by AT&T, but from an AOL mailbox.

I have long used Yahoo! Mail for all my personal emailing needs and was pleased to find a link to it when I was given this, er, fine product last week. I emailed my friend and she replied that my message was full of HTML codes. Once I got over my shock that she would recognize HTML codes I looked at the message as she received it (her replies via her Blackberry usually come to my mailbox in plain text) and saw that "something" came through as "something", which had never happened from my desktop.

I checked with a Blackjack forum and nobody has replied so now I'm asking you guys.

Why would codes come through as codes and not characters?
Do I blame my Blackjack or her Blackberry? Yahoo or AOL?
Any guesses where in the settings I or she can change this?

A-HA! So it IS her fault! ;) Thanks, Chris.

But why would it only be emails sent from my Blackjack through Yahoo and not from, say, from my Blackjack through my corporate account? Is Yahoo not doing some pre-filtering and I should yell at them? She'll ask, and she always expects me to be able to answer her questions, no matter how arcane.

Is there an add-in that would add native HTML to the Blackberry? Preferably one that is free so I don't have to listen to her gripe about buying something, even though she's got the money? As an old boss once said, "There's nobody cheaper than rich people."

Wirelessly posted (8130 Pearl)

If she is getting html mail, the problem is on your end. You are composing in html, or yahoo changing it to html.

the two HTML e-mail viewers that come to mind are

BBsmart
and
Empower

both are not free, BBsmart is just as good but cheaper....

Goodluck...

There are some good HTML add-on applications your friend with the BB can use. I use Empower Pro HTML Mail Viewer, available at Empower your BlackBerry with HTML Email Viewer and BES MailBox. Lots of people also like BBSmart HTML viewer, BBSmart - Software for your BlackBerry®. Now that I can read HTML emails on my blackberry, I can never go back to text only. Empower has a free 30 day trial on the std or pro versions at getempower.com/ota. She can type that into her browser and go straight to the download link.

Good luck with your crackjack.
