And, for the record, these OS's are NOT beta. They are just not released. There are earlier versions that are official so obviously a newer version is not "beta" but just not released by a carrier yet. As far as I'm concerned, the Bold is a beta device. It seems to have plenty of bugs. Each newer OS has the potential to fix these bugs and I'd say that the newer the OS, the better. Occasionally, something gets broken in an upgrade. If you don't want to upgrade, don't. But there's no need to hammer on those who do.
Noted. thanks.

Ive been running for 24 hours - started with 51mb, now at 36.5mb

I have:
Viigo (Biggest culprit, but worth it)
Google mobile apps
Poynt
facebook
Reuters
Weather
Stocks (wonder if I can change the icon to a tear drop)

I do find that this version is better at recapturing memory though, Ive seen it jump 5 - 6mb.

I turned off the automatic updates two days ago on Viigo, now I think memory leaks have been decreased.

From 10mb to only 3 mb.

I am now at approximately 3 days without a reboot, and the File Free has dropped a little less than 5 MBs in that time. At this point I am more than satisfied with the memory situation, especially when compared to previous builds, and many of the 4.5 builds.

Been going strong for days and no unintentional reboots. Memory seems great even with viigo running.

OK - .162 is stable and worth the effort.

So... when's the next one come out? Time to break something.

.162 has been a great version for me. I've been running it for about a week and I've noticed a nice increase in battery life. Ive been up since 5:30am. Im on 2G with WiFi turned on and with a single short phone call, 50 texts, 25 emails, and 15 mins of using the mp3 player on speaker I'm still at 90%. With previous versions I believe I was closer 70%.

I don't think I've rebooted it since Wednesday or Thursday. I was at 23.8MB, and now after a battery pull I'm back at 51.1MB.

I cant comment on the 2G vs 3G issue as I get a very weak 3G signal in my home (which happens to be within shouting distance of RIMs headquarters), which leads to me not being able to receive any text messages, although I can send them. So I have it on 2G only. But I will try it again on 3G tonight.

My .162 seems to like 3G better at my work building -- when I only have 2 bars EDGE and 5 bars of 3G.

I think the 3G/EDGE switching is more 'strategic' in the Bold .162 -- basically taking into account power consumption and congestion of 3G into better account when deciding which signal to camp on. I think that's good, because of all the overloading problems on 3G and the battery savings of 2G, especially when I don't need to transfer much data. I can at least force it to stay on 3G by disabling 2G, if need be... The surge of new users on 3G, thanks to many millions of new iPhones, is probably making it necessary for RIM to make the 2G/3G mode to become more 'strategic' on staying on 2G if the signal on that seems more stable/favourable from a battery/congestion perspective.
