Ok so I followed this guide to remove the IT policy on my BB 8900 Remove IT Policy - BlackBerryFAQ, but when I get to the step where I need to open desktop manager (step 6). I get an error which says

"An error occured while processing the policy file.
Please contact your administrator for assistance."

I'm not sure what it means by installed by blackberry internet service and not bb enterprise server...

Method One

Method 1: IT Policy Removal (Preferred)

If you have any 8xxx or 9xxx device the best method for removing IT policy is to update it to OS 4.3 or higher (if possible) and you can use JL_Cmder's "resettofactory" command to remove ALL IT policy, Firewall restrictions and Application Permission settings. After you've upgraded to OS 4.3 or higher, simply backup the device using Desktop Manager
, close Desktop Manager, then run JL_Cmder and execute the "resettofactory" command. The device will do a security wipe of the device; (meaning wipe your data but leave the OS, DO NOT use the "Wipe" command in JL_Cmder) then reboot leaving the OS, 3rd party apps but no data AND, best of all, NO IT policy whatsoever. When you're done, simply restore your backup and you're good to go with no policy or locked firewall. You can downgrade back to the old OS if you desire, too.

If your 7xxx or 8xxx device is running OS 4.2 or lower (look in Options >About) and you can't upgrade it to OS 4.3 or higher you will NOT be able to use method 1 above and you will need to use method #2 below:

Method 1 didnt work for me as the JL_Cmder exe file wont open (i am using windows 7 64 bit), so I tried method 2 and get stuck at step 6, I dont know what it means by blackberry internet service and not bb enterprise server in step 1 of method 2.

The first thing to check is that you've copied the policy bin file to the right location.I've made this mistake and spent hours trying to work out why nothing was happening.If in doubt,download the file again to handy location such as my documents and then drag and drop it to the required folder.

I had a problem with an 8900 that I couldn't get the it policy off with JL_Cmdr but solved the problem by wiping the handset,doing a clean install of the OS and then using JL_Cmdr to factory reset.This was done with the phone switched on but before you input the password.

JL_Cmder doesn't work on windows 7 64bit..

I think that there are only 2 things that can go wrong with the second method,the first being that the policy bin file is in the wrong location or secondly the registry value is not set correctly.When I've used that method in the past I've copied and pasted the path from the instructions into my registry.

Yeah thats exactly what I did, I am currently reinstalling desktop manager and trying it again from the start.

That's me out of ideas then I'm afraid.I've used both methods but with windows 7 32 bit but I can't see how you 64 bit would make any difference with method 2.When DM starts it checks for an IT policy file and if there is one it installs it on the phone,so it should find and install the blank one that you've downloaded.I can't see that the 64 bit version of windows should make any difference but if you do sort it out please let us know because I've just ordered a 64 bit laptop so the info may be usefull in the future.

Well the 64bit problem I think is only with method 1, method 2 just gives me an error when I start desktop manager wwith the new policy file in place.

Just one last thing has come to mind.I had several problems with the latest version of DM (version 5).It would freeze or crash periodically so I went back to using version 4.7 which has always worked perfectly for me and It's that version I've used to install the blank it policy file so if you're using the latest version,try uninstalling it and downloading 4.7.

Right just realized the path for my policy file was different than the guides one, I put the right path in but now when I open desktop manager it updated some applications or something but my phone still cant make calls.

Is the BB a used phone that you've just bought?If so:-

Do you have a network signal in the top right of the screen?
Will it receive calls?
Will it send and receive texts?

It was bought off ebay second hand so I think the phone may have been blocked by Orange as thats its brand. It wont send or recieve any texts or calls, but I do get edge/gprs signal bars.

I think the same as you,it's barred.I hope I'm wrong but the only way you can find out is to call Orange and give them the imei number.If they say it's barred then get it returned to the seller and report it to Ebay.Selling barred phones in the UK is a criminal offence.

you do realize removing the IT policy is usually the best way to be fired if you work for a company that put it there,
