Default Sync Issue: 8830

Please Login to Remove!

DM Ver. 5.0.1
BB Ver 2.5.0.138

This sync issue is very frustrating. See if you can determine the cause:
-Empty BB calendar via DM Backup/Restore Advanced
-Confirm settings are to sync between Desktop/Outlook calendar and BB device calendar
-Perform first sync(all calendar events are added to BB)
-For several days, sync worked adding/changing/deleting correctly
-Then sync displays deleting 3400 calendar events from Outlook
(all events except recurring events)

Sync always works correctly for Notes, Contacts and Tasks.

Summary: Calender sync
after a clean load of calendar events to the BB device, sync works correctly for several days
then sync attempts to delete all events from Outlook
If sync is permitted to proceed, it leaves only recurring events and some of the future events.

This pattern has been occurring regularly for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

Re-sync retains all events as a work around.

Is there an imcompatibility or some other known cause for this?

Thanks in advance,
Gary M

Ira,

No change. The pattern is fiendishly consistent. One sync that deletes 3000+ appointments then 1 or 2 that make only necessary changes. To prevent sync from deleting all those events, I've used RE-Sync as a work around. This preserves the events, but duplicates a few of them.

Thanks for asking!

Is the blackberry default calendar in options > advanced > default services somehow being changed to another calendar that is empty? I'm not sure that is a possible explanation for what you are seeing, but it is the only thing I can think of.

EDIT: Maybe you already realize it, but a workaround would be to re-sync instead of allow when DM asks you to confirm.

Default You may be on to something.....

IRA,

Background:
Until recently I always set the BB to load a range of events: 45 days before and 90 days after current date. However, Sync had been deleting all past events from Outlook. Now I set it to keep all events in the attempt to retain events.

I had not updated the desktop or BB software until 4.5. I thought this would eliminate the event deletion. It did not cure it, it is now more extensive: deletes all events instead of only past events.

How could the calendar be switched? Is it related to the default email account? I receive about 6 different email addresses on the BB. I do change sending account as I write email, but not change the default email account.

Is this at all related?

Thanks for the comment,
Gary

Apparently facebook can/does change the default CICAL. I've also read where some have discobered it set to DESKTOP. I don't know what other possibilities exist. So, it was just a thought of something worth checking.

Are you perhaps sync'ing Outlook with something else in addition to sync'ing with the blackberry? Does anyone else sync with that Outlook profile, say a spouse? I'm trying to think of possibilities for the Outlook data being modified.

Other than that, I'm stumped.

Ira,

I reviewed my Google Sync setting on my PC and online. Online was still set up to sync with my PC. I had deleted all Google Sync coomponents, but not Google Toolbar. I now deleted toolbar AND online calendar settings.

I have synced twice without any issue. I will update this in a few days with my results.

Thanks again, Gary

No Change.

Today, sync found 237 events on the 'device' and 3024 events in Outlook then proceeded to delete those events not on the the device.

This is a mess.

The last sync found 3000+ events on the device and made some minor adds/changes which is the way it should work all the time.

I am using re-sync to avoid erasing all events in Outlook.

Any one understand this issue?

Gary
