I'm really not sure what is happening on your phone!
You set the default browser which is good but it's not always as straight forward as that as bookmarks have the browser setting stored in them as well.
If you open the browser and ensure it says WiFi browser at the top, if it doesn't then press the blackberry key, "Change Browser" and select "Wifi browser".
If you now enter a new address to go to, rather than a bookmark or one in your history, then you should be using the WiFi. this is apparent by the arrows flashing over the WiFi logo in the top right.
If this is't the case then let us know where it deviates.
