Default Buh-bye Palm!

Looks like HP is shutting down all operations for hardware that runs WebOS. Their tablet sales were an unmitigated disaster and they simply have no ability to get new hardware out in a reasonable length of time.

They had a wonderful first mover advantage, with a strong and loyal customer base. Palm forgot how to innovate, and HP had no idea what to do with it.

I hope some folks in Waterloo are paying attention.

You could very easily replace Palm with RIM as RIM seems to be following the Palm playbook to a tee.

Similarities:
Palm was an early leader in the smartphone arena, RIM was a leader in the smartphone area.
Palm stagnated with both their software and hardware, promised new OS and hardware was coming, delays followed. RIM, the same.
Palm develops a tablet (folio) that need to tether with Palm device, RIM introduces Playbook, early models need to tether with BB device. Folio never ships, Playbook is a flop.
Palm's new OS finally emerges, too little too late, Palm is sold to HP, HP buries WebOS, RIM's OS finally ships...

See where I'm going.

Argon, the fanboy with no loyalty, chimes in.

I presume you love WP7. With no customizable ringtones, and an inability to see hidden WiFi network. They don't even have an OCS/Lync client, And made by the company with the worst reputation for smartphones.

I'm sure you had a Palm, too.

You may not like him or his company, but MS is more successful then RIM will ever be.

Have you ever seen Robert Wuhl's "Assume the Position" on HBO? Great stuff! Especially the story of "plucking yew".

I'd rather see Google and Facebook poke each other until one or both of them are out.

If RIM was smart, they would buy WebOS. Works well with both tablets and handhelds and unlike QNX, is already proven to work well and has small base of developers already. However, based on past history, RIM is not smart and I predict will ultimately fail on their present course.

You don't think WebOS would be a good buy for RIM?
