Please help! Pearl 8110 on T mobile- no browser!!
Please Login to Remove!
Ok so I bought a brand NIB AT&T 8110 Pearl and had it unlocked. Got the 20$ plan from T Mobile so I could use internet and everything. No matter what I try I can't get the Browser on the 8110!!!
Email works fine.
Text messages work fine.
MMS works (but off and on ??)
NO Browser!!!
Sent the service books multiple times. T Mobile says they aren't coming through cause its an AT&T phone. so i put T Mobile branded software on there from the UK because they have the 8110. Gave me 2 new icons- "maps" (which work but never can find the satellite) and "manage email and internet." Changed my APN manually to match T- Mobile and was told it doesn't make a difference anyways
Sent service books again and still no Browser.
Talked to Blackberry even, they are stumped...
Can anyone help??? Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will the 8120 software work on here? Should I try that?
Any ideas would greatly help
Thanks in advance

You can't load 8120 software on an 8110. It just won't work.
This is most likely because TMobile doesn't offer the 8110 and they don't have the browser service books. This happened to many 8300 users early on who purchased unlocked devices and wanted to use them on TMo. You may never get a browser.

The 8120 OS will NOT work on it, don't even attempt. The OS is likely not the problem.
You do have the $19.99/month Unlimited BlackBerry Data Plan from Tmo, it sounds. Good.
Sending service books would be good as you have. Now, with the device powered on, remove the battery and replace it. Let the BB reboot.
Look at Options > Advanced > Service Books. Do you see one listed there as "Browser"?
**edit, ok i see what John posted, and he very well could be correct about this.

I was one of those early T-Mo adopters of the 8300 and the only way to get the browser was to use the OS from British carrier O2. Until there's an OS that plays nice with T-Mobile, no dice.

You need the browser to do an OTA install...

So if you have an unlocked 8110, you still can't use it on T-Mobile since it won't get the browser service book right? can anyone confirm this? I'm looking to purchase one but I need the browser to work... Thanks,

Yes, it will get the Service Books. Unlocked is unlocked.
An unlocked 8110 on the Tmo network will work just fine, and have the browser needed.

Just to be perfectly clear, to get the browser you need a Blackberry Data Plan, not T-Mobile Internet. Both are $20/month added onto a basic minutes plan.

LAgal,
Do you have a W'n'w icon (Web and Walk) on your phone?
If so that is the blackberry's browser icon for the T-Mobile UK Software. It replaces the normal browser icon.
Dunno if this helps but let me know if you find it.

Sanders, I have the an unlocked 8110 with me right now. T-Mobile pushes all the service books for emails, but not the one for Internet Browser, so I don't have a Browser on my blackberry. Any help? Thanks,

If this was a previously-owned Blackberry it might have been used on a corporate network and therefore have an IT Policy on it that restricts internet use.

Didn't think of that. Checking right now, so if there is, i just follows the steps on here to clear IT policy right?
What if there's none?
PS: Actually , there's none, so what might be the case here?

Just an FYI spent over 4 hours on the Phone with T-mobile and another 4 on the phone with RIM, and unlocked 8110 on T-mobile's network will not get the browser service book for some reason.
According to T-mobile, it is because their service books are tagged for models which is defined by your PIN.
Now another interesting thing is T-Mobile is in the process of purchasing Suncom which does support the 8110 so they will support it later this year.
I have found a way to get it 100% working on T-mobile though, at least if you have a blackberry data plan, but it should work with any data plan.
IF you have a friend who has a working 8100 on T-Mobile's network you need to backup their service books, and then you can restore them to the 8110 and it works fine.
You do this under the advanced options in the desktop software.
The one catch is you have to REMOVE the browser before you can backup or restore the correct service books.
I found this link on removing and reinstalling the browser,
hxxp://blackberrywithoubis.googlepages.com/blackberrybrowserwithoutbis2
1.) you remove the browser on the phone with the working service books.
2.) backup the service books only using advanced backup
3.) reinstall the browser to the working 8100
4.) Connect the 8110, and remove the browser
5.) Restore the service books using advanced restore
6.) Reinstall the browser
7.) Goto service books under advanced options, and remove any service books that point to the 8100 users email addresses.
8.) Login to your T-mobile blackberry email and push the service books
9.) Surf the web using the blackberry browser.
Your device should reboot between most of the steps.
I have done this to 3 BB's and to my own several times to test I know it works.
I will be exporting my service books to an .ipd minus my e-mail once I get that done I will post the .ipd
Hope this helps ...

How are you removing the browser? Generally, it's greyed out in Desktop Manager and you can't remove it.

MMS requires a Blackberry data plan (or BB feature enabler) as does the Browser. You can try www.operamini.com
