Will it sync with the desktop manager? You can use it to wipe the BB. Or if you are on a BES you can get your BES guys to initiate a wireless wipe as well.

Best thing to do would be to get the javaloader.exe file from RIM's web site and do a complete wipe of the unit. You have to do it from a command prompt and the syntax is javaloader -usb wipe. When its done, it will reboot and after a few seconds, you should see an icon that looks like a circle with a slash through it. Start Desktop Manager and through the Application Loader, you should be able to reload the Operating System.

Hi, I hate to dig up this thread, but I'm to the point now where I have the little circle on the screen.

I start up Desktop Manager, click Application Loader, and the only option is to Add. I click it, and it's wanting me to pick a .alx file to load. Where is the option to re-load the OS? Thanks!!

(For the third time today)...

1. Download the handheld operating system for your BlackBerry from your carrier's web site. The list of all carrier web site is in a sticky thread in the General BlackBerry Discussion forum.

2. Execute the downloaded file

3. Locate and delete VENDOR.XML on your C: drive

4. Restart Desktop Manager and it should attempt to reload the OS.

Did you wipe the BB first (always remember to backup before you do a wipe so you can restore)? It sounds like you haven't and since the application loader sees an OS it is not giving you the option. If you are trying to upgrade, just downloading the OS is not enough, you need to install it on your PC and search for and remove the Vendor file. Now after a wipe and connection to the appliction loader it will give you the option to upgrade or in you are reinstalling after a wipe should let you do that as well.

Edit NJBB you beat me to it.

I used the custom Javaloader app to wipe the phone. I uninstalled the Desktop Manager from the PC, reinstalled it from the CD that came with the phone, deleted the vendor.xml that I found on the hard drive, then started Desktop Manager again. It's still not asking me if I want to reinstall the OS.

???

Edit: I downloaded the latest software from Cingular, and now we're getting somewhere. Will edit again if/when I achieve success.

Edit Again: Downloading the latest Cingular software "triggered" something, and it recognized the need to install, so it's all done. Thanks for your help.
