Default 8100 on T-Mobile.

I apoligize if this has been covered before or this seems like a stupid question but here we go.. (I'm not typically in the 8100 forum :( )

One of my buddies recently got an 8100 from T-Mobile, he is tech savy (We both are in I.T. professionally). However he is not able to load Windows Live Messenger, I sent him a few different links to download it but it told him it was unsupported. After getting some info from his BlackBerry I found he was only running 4.2.1.107 so I sent the link for T-Mobile's BlackBerry software download link (which I got from the FAQ page) and it stated 4.2.1.107 was the latest version from T-Mobile. I haven't sent him the link for the 4.5 download...yet.

So is 4.2.1.107 seriously the latest OS version for the 8100 on T-Mobile? How is that possible I thought I had it bad with 4.2.2 on my 8830 but wow. Does know if T-Mobile will update the O.S. for the 8100 anytime soon?

Also is Windows Live Messenger not supported on T-Mobile or because he is running 4.2.1.107?

Thanks in Advance.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry Curve 8320)

Yes, 4.2.1.107 is the latest available T-Mobile-specific OS for the Pearl, to my knowledge.

I cannot run WLM on my T-Mo 8100 with either 4.2 or 4.5. Think it's a T-Mo service book thing...

This is going off an a tangent, but why does T-Mobile update to BES 2.5, and then leave us all with a 4.2 OS?

Not that I really care since I'm not the typical consumer and I'm running 4.5, but if they're gonna make the features available on the server side, why not the client side too?

Why did they update to BIS 4.5? Well for future devices (i.e. Bold, KickStart-Pearl) and yes T-Mobile will release a 4.5 for the 8100 once they are done testing it.

You can easily get 4.5 for the 8100 you do not need to use the "T-Mobile" official version.

If I understand correctly -- you are saying I can upgrade my Blackberry to 4.5 and still use it with my T-mobile service???

Yes, you can use any carrier's software as long as it's for your type of phone. Just be sure to remove the vendor.xml file as stated in the install instructions.

I have T-Mobile 8100 pearl and updated to 4.5. You are correct they are not offering the 4.5 yet. 4.5 Installed okay but there was an issure of the pearl rebooting all the time and was told to format the media card and this would fixx it , I did and no more rebooting . The issue on windows live messanger is still there ,it is not supported.
