Default Best way to replace an 8700c using BES?

Please Login to Remove!

My mic died on my old 8700c and Cingular sent me a new BB. I know I can backup my old BB using the desktop software and then restore after Wireless activation but isn't there a better way using the BES?

I've searched the forum and BB's site but haven't seen anything too useful.

It is possible for the BES server to backup your information from your BlackBerry. Check with your local BES admin to find out if you are configured for this backup.

It's possible to do the backup/restore ota, but that is the descretion of the admin. And honestly, it is faster to do it yourself.

All I did was put my sim card in the new bb and did the Enterprise Activation. It restored the BB to what it was before, icons, call logs, fonts, etc... but it didn't restore any 3rd party apps nor my Brickbreaker scores lol.

I was hoping there was a way to 'image' the old bb and restore that image to the new bb.

Sorry, there is no way to 'image' a BlackBerry. You will have to reinstall you 3rd party apps again.

Doug:

I am just curious as to why 3rd party data has to be reinstalled even when you do a restore from a full backup. Is this a technical problem, or a mere limitation of the devices themselves, or just simply something RIM would not have the BBs do for whatever reason?

The 3rd party apps do not get backed up...many applications, just like in windows, have an install routine that is more than just placing a .COD file on the device. If there are standard applications that should be on all devices or a group of devices in the Enterprise, you can create a software configuration and assign it to those users which will push the application to those users.
