wow. awesome stuff zombie...

I have a question about multi-tasking...can you open multiple android apps at a time, or are you limited to one in the android player?

I installed the player and the Android Kindle app, since the absence of Kindle was my biggest disappointment about the PB. The app works well enough that now I don't mind the wait for a native Kindle app.

At first I thought you could not, but I had a spot of trouble learning how to close them (Before this player I was sort of andro-ignorant), I thought just using the back swipe I was closing them, this is not always the case. I do not think it is true multi-tasking, because when I switched from my mail, and sent myself another one from my berry, I wasn't notified when it came through, but received the notification after I switched back.

Some do keep working in the background. A Task program and a UI extension I installed. I haven't tried to open multiple players yet, but you can open multiple apps.

Read through the thread from the start of page 1. It isn't that long....

Apps installed so far. Haven't tested them all yet, but the majority seem to work.

Using Windows 7?

Did you run the Player before trying to connect?

You should also close the Android Player amd reopen it again before trying to load the Astro File Manager.

ADB stands for "Android Debug Bridge". It comes with the android 2.0 sdk and can be run from the windows command prompt or a mac/linux terminal.

In order to run ADB from your machine, you will need to set up the following in your Droid "Settings".
Settings -> Application Settings -> Developement (I am not too sure if the PB should be left in development mode(actually just confirmed that you have to be), but I did. I also used a usb cable to connect and did not try it via WiFi))

Download and install the platform tools, install to C:

Can a mod take that link+bold and place it after line 2 in post #15.

Then erase this. Please?

Thanks for all your help Zombie. I had the same issue as ade (not having the droid sdk installed). Might be worth adding that to your steps.

Works fantastic, and has totally changed the appeal of the PB for me. The new voice turn by turn nav from google works.

Can't get angry birds going though, darnit ;)

There are 5 or 6 versions of Angry Birds, haven't tested them all, hopefully for those that like it, I can find one that works.

Hopefully a mod can move that missing step into the mini-guide. I had that installed already a few days prior and completely forgot about it.

I’ve found another very easy way, for me at least, to install the Astro.v2.3.1.noexpire.apk file without using cmd.exe.
Quote:
1. Download sys.android.bar file
2. Side load the Android Player
3. Download Astro file manager
4. Start up WiFi sharing so that you can access your PlayBook file folders.
5. Open Windows File Manager and go to the PlayBook drive (usually drive Z)
6. Navigate to z:\misc\android and place the Astro File Manage APK file there.
7. You can disconnect your PlayBook now if you like.
8. Start the Android Player.
9. Swipe from top bezel down and hit "Set Home View" and select "Installed Apps".
10. Go to Settings > Applications and make sure "Unknown Sources" is checked on. You can swipe the lower bezel from left to right to go back the Installed Applications.
10a. You need the Android keyboard to work so go to Settings > Language & Keyboard and make sure the Android Keyboard is checked on.
11. Start the Android Browser app and in the URL, type in:
file:///accounts/1000/shared/misc/android/Astro.v2.3.1.noexpire.apk and hit Go.
12.This will install the Astro File Manager.
13. You can now Run it and you're good to go.

When you download other APK files, put them in the directory noted above (Z:\misc\Android) so you know where to find them and install all subsequent Android Apps with Astro (or you can use Browser).

You can do that. You can also use the Astro File Manager to install the .apk file from your Playbook. I just ask my friends on bbm to send me suggestions. Then a I cheat a little. Once the official player comes out I think I will join the marketplace and buy some of the paid apps. You can Google .apk files and a healthy selection should appear.

This is a pretty good site. http://www.appbrain.com/

Unhappy Re: Android Player for PlayBook leaked

Seem not to be able to install the Android Player on my PB. Installed the DDPB, put my PB in dev mode, put in the ip from my PB, selected the .bar-file and choose "install". But the player doesn't appear on my PB...

Wondering what I can possibly do wrong... Any suggestions?
