Default Curve 8310 to Bold 9000 (Both ATT) device switch fails

Please Login to Remove!

I can plug my Curve 8310 into my desktop computer via USB cable and perform the first half of the Device Switch function (with Desktop Manager 4.2.2.14), and when it prompts me to plug in the Bold 9000 to complete the Device Swap, it can never find the USB connection. The USB option does not even show as a menu item, Com 1 - 3 only. If I select the "Detect Connection" option, it locks into a search loop that I have to cancel out of, which shuts down the entire "Device Switch" utility.
I have tried to have the Desktop Manager simply see the connection settings for this phone under Options, and it fails there as well. That function does at least list the USB connection as a menu item, but it will not find the phone.

The Bold 9000 does not have a sim inserted, and I'm curious as to whether or not the sim card must be inserted to have the USB connection function. Am I required to swap my sim from my 8310 into the 9000 for the device swap to work?

While connected to my computer with the USB cable, I can browse the files in the Bold 9000 in my Windows Explorer on the computer, and the charge function works fine, just no actual USB connection seen for data transfer.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Tried switching the sim card during the "Device Switch", made no difference. The Desktop Manager absolutely does not see the Bold 9000 over the USB connection, as far as data transfer is concerned.

Your DM is rather outdated. Try upgrading the manager and try the device switching again.

I realize that my DM is an older version, but it's the latest version I can find that synchs with Microsoft Office 2000. I know that's old too, but it's what I have and I like the way they both work.

So instead of the wizard, make a backup. Unplug the old one then. Plug in the new one and restore.

If it still doesnt see it then you will have to upgrade your DM. It's either that or you have a bad 9000

Took it to my local AT&T service center and they were able to perform the device switch for me. Works fine. I've decided the older DM version must be my problem because now that I have the phone in operation, DM still doesn't see it. As much as I hate to do so, I guess I'll hafta upgrade my DM to something newer.

Thanks all
D.
