Wi-Fi in a BB doesn't make much sense to me at all. The whole idea of the Blackberry is to be mobile...as in everywhere. With Wi-Fi nowhere near being ubiquitous yet, and most hotspots being for-profit, it pretty much limits you to home & work (or school, for you college users). Sure, I spend quite a bit of my time both at home and at work, but I have a desktop at home and a laptop at work. At home, anywhere I could use my blackberry, my desktop is within 10 steps of me. At work, I'm an IT professional, so I'm rarely out of arm's reach of my laptop.

(And all this is not to mention I was tired of my girlfriend making fun of me for walking around everywhere with my 8700 hanging on my belt) ;)

All in all, Wi-Fi is a non-deciding feature for me.

As a very loyal advocate for the BlackBerry models (all of them) there will never be a "perfect" model, and that's the good news.

There are too many different uses for a BlackBerry and a lot of different preferences from user to user.

This is one of the strengths of the BlackBerry lineup. Unlike some of the other "smartphones" where you get just one choice of size and shape. The BB lineup provides choices.

The reliability, security and well engineered BB OS cannot be beat.

Cheers.... and remember to enjoy your BlackBerry NOW! You already have a great model. And we can all rest easy knowing that the next new BB model will continue to provide world class performance and some great new features.

Cheers....

This testimony above is exactly what I mean. We already have great models.

And no, you are not one of the few.... I love SureType, am using it at this very moment and could not be happier.

The Pearl is a really terrific new model. If I did not have to process up to 100 emails per day I would still be using a Pearl. However in my particular case the 7130c with SureType suits my needs a little better than the Pearl.

The beauty of BlackBerry right now.... great models for everyone... get yours out and enjoy it NOW...

Cheers

the only way im going to trade in my 8100 for another bb is if they make a bb with all of this things:
wi-fi
fm radio
mp3
video player
camera/video
and all the other basic thing the pearl has.. but the 8800 does look nice in that black pic..

To the contrary, WiFi in a BB makes all the sense in the world to me.

You are 100% correct...... Mobility Is Everything.

That's why WiFi is the way I choose to connect.

At home, my entire two story house is setup with WiFi as are the houses of my friends. We all use and have been using WiFi for a long time.

At work, I too am an IT professional, and own the company. Each of our buildings is wired with WiFi.

Meeting friends at Starbucks we all use WiFi. Traveling it's in the hotels we choose, and at most of the Airport Lounges.

WiFi is a huge part of our connected world.

Cheers....

The whole point of having a phone like the Pearl is its form factor. I cant see myself carrying the 8800 is because it is not is sleek at the 8100. I know they are both around the same depth, but the width would be too much. Although the larger screen would be worth it.

Based on the photos I've seen of the 8800 series, it does look like they are piggy backing on the successful style of the Pearl. However I agree with Canonbomb1887, the 8800 is a full size (if a bit smaller than the 8700) BlackBerry with a full qwerty keyboard.

It's not designed to compete with the Pearl. Nor will it be easy to use one handed. For me, that's one of many great features of the 8100 Pearl is ease of use one handed.

The 8800 is certain to be a great device, but in my opinion there is no BlackBerry that is better than the other, just different.

That's the beauty of BlackBerry's..... there is a model for everyone.

Cheers...

I make use of the Pearl's small size all day every day, whereas the semi-qwerty keyboard gets used a few minutes a day at most. Point being that the size wins out for me over the lack of full qwerty.

Seems like I'm the only person here who uses multi tap on the Pearl.

That's pretty much my sentiments also.......now that I'm two months into using it and have now downloaded the KJV for quick references,411, Yahoo!Go and I really enjoy the flexibility this phone gives me.

Understand your mileage may vary due to different needs of everyone but right now for me.....happy camper...

Honestly, I am with the Pearl because it looks more like a regaular phone than any other BB on the market. At work, this thing is in a holster, but outside of work, its in my pocket, and that is why it needs to be small.

The MM features are nice but I don't really use them that much, so video recording isn't a priority. I agree with a previous post stating if you have a BB, most people have unlimited data...so why would you need wi-fi.

First and foremost your BB is a phone and an email device. I prefer my phone and email device be small. All the extra features the Pearl has are just bonuses.

Simple: Speed and convenience.

Just another choice which has great benefits to those of us who have homes, offices, and other places setup with WiFi. You can never have too much speed or too many connectivity options.

Cheers...

pearl is my first bb and the main reason i got it was it doesn't use a regular keyboard and it's small like a phone. so i will stick with my pearl for a while.

Yeah... I like the multi functioning as well. I had three devices before (or 4 if you include the camera) - 3G Phone, full size BB and an ipod...

Now I can get away with one After 4 days I am getting used to suretype and can type with one hand. I never did type really long emails on the BB anyway.

This phone is ideal for me... and I am a business user!

Totally agree!

My regular BB used to get left on the desk at home unless I was taking along a bag or coat as I would opt for my ipod in preference. I live in hong Kong and its usually shirt only... The less you carry around the better it is.

Now I can do everything with one device.. and it fits in my shirt pocket!

I'm not saying I wouldn't (or don't) pay for Wi-Fi, all I'm getting at is who can afford to have an account with every hotspot company around? There are many that offer subscription service that don't have "roaming" agreements with other WiFi providers, and then there are those that have a pay-per-play type of service with no subscription option.

I'm not going to shell out $9.95 just to use WiFi for 45 minutes at an airport on my Blackberry, when I can just as easily grab my laptop, boot it up, and launch iPass and access the internet that way.

iPass is a company/software client that makes roaming agreements with thousands of hotspot operators and then sells their own service which integrates with a company's VPN system allowing "free to the end user" connections back to the corporate network. While I'm not paying for it out of pocket, my company has an enterprise account and pays for it for everyone. It doesn't support Blackberry at all, and there are no plans to as of yet.
