So I am going from an 8800 to a curve. I have been through 3 8800s and all have developed build quality issues - namely squeaky sides. This is the only bb that I have ever had this problem with. How does the build quality compare and how well has the curve held up for everyone?

My build quality is excellent. No issues whatesoever. I would try the Curve. I too had problems with the 8800 and just lived with the squeeky sides. The Curve is totally different for me and I put it in my pocket with no skin every day. If you do a search I remember some people did have some build quality issues.

I own both the 8800 and 8300 Curve...both manufactured in Mexico, which is supposed to be the ultimate kiss of death as far as build quality goes...and have had absolutely no construction issues with either device.

My 8800 has been "creak-free" from the start...and is a great device.

But, the 8300 amazes me. It is definately lighter than the 8800, and the featherweight feel and the obvious all-plastic case concerned me initially as I thought it would be all flimsy and hollow feeling...but not at all. It is, if anything even more solidly constructed than the 8800.

I've owned both the 8800 and the Curve! You can check my posts for more in detail info on both of them. But while the Curve is one of the best looking BB's on the planet, build quality is 100% hit or miss! The newer 8800's dont have the squeaky sides, which means RIM fixed it with new production. But since the Curve has only been out for a little more then a month, it will take some time to fix the loose creaky corners, the openings where dust can get on the screen, loose mic , and some other lil issues. Again this is stuff that is hit or miss, my advice would be to wait a month and then give it a try! RIM is pretty good about fixing stuff, and all should be fine by Augest or so.

Yeah...the dust under the screen thing would really bother me..I had that problem with the 8700 and thats why I got rid of it.

Bear in mind that phone forum postings are like customer service surveys. You hardly ever hear from the majority of users that are very satisfied and have no issues with a product or service...but you can bet you will hear a lot from the minority of users that are dissatisfied or have had a bad experience.

I wouldn't call it a bad experience, I think the idea and design of the Curve is great! But it needs work, even my contact at AT&T went back to the 8800 series because of the dust issue! But like I said hit or miss sums it up best with the Curve.
