Default Pressing on Pearl affect the screen?

Please Login to Remove!

I folks,
I just got my 8800 today.
When I push down on the Pearl it sends a small ripple on the screen, like the screen itself is being pushed. Is this normal?

Cheers,
S.

Sounds like a problem to me. That didn't happen on my 8100 and not happening on the 8800.

Just looking at it again there, I must say the ripple effect is only slight, and at the bottom of the screen, but still something for me to get a little pissed off by, since it keeps catching my eye.

When you press the pearl, are you supporting the device by holding the back right in line with the back of the screen? Try putting the unit down on a table and press the pearl and see if you get the same results. If it's only when you're holding the device, then you're just bending the unit ever so slightly as you press the button...perfectly normal...

I'm holding the back, setting on the desk, pressing light, pressing hard.... I can't see ANY change in the screen at the bottom or anywhere. I imagined you were describing like a computer lcd and you press on it and it creates a momentary "wave" in the screen. Is that what you perceive is happening?

I saw this on the 8800. You can really see it on certain web pages with colored backgrounds. You can also make the screen ripple by pressing the back of the device.

I had noticed this too, and you are exactkly right. It is the pressure comming from the back causing it. By repositioning where I support the 8800 in my hands the problem goes away.

Ok. I pressed firmly on the back and the front and I got the waves, but I really had to press hard and it really doesn't show up when I press the pearl. More when I brace the front (on the pearl or the screen) and press the back.

I know that sometimes, if I'm trying to be somewhat precise about pressing the pearl - maybe want to press it without it rolling, I brace my thumb against the top of the ring and sort of roll it on to the pearl. As a result, I'm sort of pressing on the screen a little bit, and I can see some moire on the screen as a result sometimes.
