Default Problem installing OS with Desktop Manager - PLEASE HELP!

Please Login to Remove!

For some reason the last SEVERAL times I’ve tried updating my OS on my BB 8800, the Desktop Manager will go through the motions and prompt me to upgrade, I’ll click next and start the upgrade process. It will automatically backup my personal data, then delete everything on there, then load the new OS, THEN when it’s finished installing the new OS, the BB will reboot (which is what it’s supposed to do) and I get a message saying “unable to reconnect to the device during this operation” or something of the sort. Of course, once the BB boots back up with the new OS it doesn’t have my personal data (contacts, calendar, ect) and ALL my 3rd party applications are gone! What can I do to remedy this problem??

Plug the BB in, run Desktop Manager and go to Backup/Restore. Then in the upper left corner click on File >Open and browse to the backup file. It's called LoaderBackup-(2008-07-23).ipd. The date may be different but that's what it's called. Then restore that file to the BB by clicking on the arrow in the middle pointing to the right.

That's how i get my Data back (contacts, calendar, ect) but what about my third party applications. This last time i upgraded the OS, i used the third party back up post AND backed up a seperate copy of the data myself just to be safe. What do you think is going on with DM and causing it to do this??

If the OS loaded then your 3rd party apps should have been restored. I have no idea what caused it but I've seen it before. 95% of the time the OS loads go just fine. However once in a while they just glitch. Not sure why.

Default DM won't recognize that I already have this OS loaded

I got this same exact error but all of my data/apps got loaded back in correctly. It just like it doesn't wait long enough for the final reboot. This happened when I went to 4.5 38 and now 4.5 52.

I'm now faced with a problem of every time I start Desktop Manager, it tells me I need to upgrade. I can click cancel or I can click Ok. The problem is that I can't use the App Loader b/c it wants to reload the OS everytime. Is there a way to remove this setting? I can't uncheck the upgrade on the OS in Advanced options. I even started the DM install program and did a Repair hoping it would flush something out. Thanks for any help.

I think I solved my own problem. I just happened to not have deleted the old VENDOR.XML file and when I put it back in the App Loader file, it now thinks I don't need an uprgrade. For whatever reason when I do an OS upgrade, the Vendor XML file is not getting written to, so it is only 1k and DM thinks I need an install. Just for those of you who might have this same issue.

Some releases of the OS have empty Vendor.xml files (1K) and the OS will load. However, other versions do have info in the vendor.xml and the OS will not load. I ALWAYS delete the vendor.xml regardless of where the OS came from and whether it's 1k or 170k. Just delete it.
