Default How do I disable emails & text messages ?

Please Login to Remove!

I will be on a cruise ship this summer and I have been told that if I do not turn off my blackberry that I will incur horendous charges. Apparently there is a cell tower on the ship and anything coming through that is charged at $2.95 per min. I don't need that kind of expense but I want the functionality of my Storm and its calendar, camera etc. If I could somehow turn off receiving any emails and any text messages and maybe the internet browser, then I should not incur any ship board cell tower charges. Any thoughts on this, what have you done in the past when you were on a cruise ship.
Thanks.

This will not prevent text messages from being sent/received, only data.

The first suggestion will prevent data and sms as well as voice calls.

You have to call Verizon to disable texting. Email comes with the data package and you don't have to worry about being charged getting those, if that is your concern. If you have a data plan that is.

he wants everything cell related off. Due to charges so just having them disable texts wont work. The first suggestion will do what he wants

I wonder if you could call the cruise company and find out what carrier is covering the ship, and maybe get a temporary roaming plan with them. Might be worth 20-40 bucks to have your BB work on the ship.
If it was that cheap, I'd probably buy a short plan.
