when my phone is due for an upgrade i would like to know which provider has the best coverage for me.
Basicaly i dont trust their own info and i know what providers i can select on my phone by using it to do a search, but it doesnt give you a signal strength.
Is there an app for this?

No, there's nothing like this for any platform. Not even Android or iOS. The only way to gauge carrier signal in your area is to talk to local folks with service from the various providers. Ask them about data connection reliability, speed, call dropping, etc.
