I will apologize in advance if this has already been addressed, however I would like to find out if I can avoid purchasing the Enterprise software for use in a small business and utilize MS Direct Push since the Blackberry supports Outlook? I assume that this is not possible, however I want to check to be 100% sure.

To push email to a BlackBerry from your mail server you MUST have the BES server. To save a few bucks, look into the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express.

Based on that information it looks like it would be free for the first user and then cost additional for adding users. It looks like a potential drawback would be the need to purchase some sort of support plan after the first two free months.

You are correct. Keep in mind you have to pay for support for Microsoft products as well..

Microsoft Push is beneficial for Windows Mobile devices, not BlackBerry.

It is neither a FREE or great solution:
Exchange 2003 SP2 only supported
Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU2 only supported
To get a true secure and manageable solution you also need:
Microsoft Remote Erase Tool
Microsoft System Management Server
Microsfot ISA Server
Oulook Web Access

Neither free nor simple.
