I am trying to load various applications and themes recomended on this site and others.
Each time I try to Add them from the Application Loader, I go to the directory they are in, highlight the file (e.g. .axl or .cod or .jxl) and I get told "no additional applications for my device were found", even though I choose the applications suitable for my model and OS.
What am I doing wrong, please?

Do you have your handheld OS also loaded and installed to your PC.

I didn't know I had to do that - i was sure that with my Pearl (my first BB) I could just use the DestopManager without doing anything like that.
What do I do please?

I have a 8830 and I installed the Desk top manager and I am trying to load ACT. I press the load application it asks for file and I put in act and it says it can not find the file name. Any help woul be appreciated.

In DM, I have gone into Help - About and clicked the "Device Spftware" tab and found that no devices or software are listed.
I have looked at the RIM downloads site and they list links for all networks to download this from APART FROM O2 in the UK.
O2 have been unable to assist me with this - they did not know that Device Software, loaded on the PC even existed.
Any clues on what I should do please?
Would spending 3 hours re-downloading DM fix this?
Would re-installing the OS (O2 can still only offer the same OS - 4.2 - that I already have on the phone) fix this?

You *have to* install the Handheld OS for the 8310 onto your PC in order to load software.

Look in the top of the 8300 forum and it will give you the location of the latest 8310 handheld OS.

Follow the instructions on Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ on how to load a new OS.

That will get it working.

THIS IS NOT A DESKTOP MANAGER ISSUE - do not download and reload DM.

Sadly, O2 (CarPhone Warehouse) support have since come back to me and told me that I had to remove and reinstall the DM. Notwithstanding the fact that they did not sound as if they had a full grasp on the situation, I stupidly followed their advice and am in the middle of an eternally long download of the DM4.3 (having already uninstalled my existing copy).
I guess that once I have finally installed the new DM, I will follow your advice.
