Default Antenna Booster for the Curve 8320

Please Login to Remove!

I recently moved to an area where the cell signal is dismal at best. Has anyone had any experiences (positve or negative) with any of the antenna (signal) boosters (I noticed there are 4 types on the Crackberry site).

Thanks.

If you have T-Mobile service and a T-Mobile 8320... then go the WiFi route and utilize UMA.
This is one of the most treasured features of the BlackBerry.
You won't need any cell signal at all

If you're talking about the stick-on type, they're rip offs. A cell phone repeater could work but aren't cheap.

Thanks for the idea. I called T-Mobile this morning and they said I had to have wireless access to use the Wi-Fi. That's actually the problem here. DSL is not available and cable is not an option. I was going to use the Curve as the modem; however, the cell signal doesn't allow that now. That's why I was wondering about the Antenna (signal) Booster.

You will need a Network Extender. Get through your carrier. Make them accountable.

I talked with T-Mobile and they claim that they don't have anything like a range extender, signal extender, etc. I appreciate the ideas though.

How dismal is the signal? Enough that you can sometimes make a call or not that strong? There has to be a decent signal outside for an amplifier to work. There is a cheaper brand than the Wilsons at the Crackberry website.

Amazon.com: Wireless Extenders YX 500-Pcs Cellular Phone Signal Booster: Electronics
Amazon.com: Wireless Extenders YX510-PCS-CEL Dual-Band Cell Phone Signal Booster: Cell Phones & Service

You have to be kinda handy to install these types of amplifiers. The antennae goes outside or in the attic and you run the wire inside to the unit. No experience with the Wilson unit, but I worked in one place with a Wireless Extender unit. You had to get fairly close to it, like in the same room. So it wasn't quite the huge footprint they list, but it worked.

Talking Signal Boosters...

I have a signal booster for my home, but for coverage all over, in every room! I purchased it from i think it was Unwiredsignal.com... I'll make sure... Yup it is... wasn't cheap though, but of course you get what you pay for. Definately worth it. I just noticed they have a C-Booster for the blackberry curve... if thats of any help to any one else...

They have a lot of ways to boost your current signal. Of course if you don't have atleast a weak signal it won't help. You should do your research on every brand there is out there to see which one you feel is right for you.

I did all my research and I found that the Wilson Electronics was my best option.

On their site theres also a page where they compare brands of boosters... I think its Wilson VS The Competition

Hope this helped.

I.T.
