I upgraded earlier today to Desktop Manager 5.0 and when I plugged my phone into my computer, I was prompted to do the automatic backup. (I have it set to run every other day.)
When it ran, I got this error. Clicking OK on the message prompt, the backup appeared to continue and I got a message indicating that the backup was complete.
Now the $64K questions: what caused this error, how do I correct it and are the backups that are being taken in the interim of any value?
Hi. I've heard of people having issues with the newest BB desktop software update...maybe this is one of them? Or is it just a user error; i'm deciding whether i should update or not
I have gone through the entire backup process, database by database and found two errors - one with the profiles database where it reports backing up 15 of 19 entries and the second problem is the theme settings db, where it backs up 0 of 1 entry.
Not sure what to do about it. I only have one theme installed on my phone... as far as the profiles go, I have 8 - the six standard and two custom profiles that I have created... not sure where it is counting 15 or 19.
Is there any way to examine the actual backup file and make sense of it so I can see exactly where it is blowing up?
I am not sure what caused this... I have installed several new apps over the last week, upgraded to BBM 5.0.8 yesterday and also upgraded the DM software to 5.0.11... that's a lot of changes, so I am not sure what change caused the error to occur.
Did you ever try using SmartAlerts? Maybe it's injecting profile entries it's not liking. Are you running SocialScope? (I've had profile issue's with SocialScope)
I not sure what could be wrong with the theme.
Amber ABC Converter will let you look threw an IPD file, but probably not the way want.
Might be worth using an earlier version of the desktop manager on a spare computer to see if it works.

Just think about how far BlackBerries have come from then till now... And what else is coming.
Yes, I am running both SmartAlerts and SocialScope. Everything did backup ok under DM 4.6, so maybe I will go back to that version and see what happens. Thanks...
I have concluded that there is something wonky with the DM 5.0x builds. I reverted back to DM 4.6 and backups run smoothly. I am staying on 4.6 for the foreseeable future...
I'm having the same issue with running backups on my Bold with DM 5.0. It errors on 0 of 1 theme settings every time. I've cleared both the browser cache and the key store cache and it hasn't fixed the problem.
Wow, I guess that's why they keep updating the Desktop Manager.. Glad you got it resolved, and thanks for posting the response. I'll probably stay away from 5.0 for a little while longer

fonejunkie I had the same problem. I only had the profiles give me an error and it was 6 out of 8. I downloaded and installed DM 4.7 and had no further backup problems.
I am having a similar problem with my Curve 8900. I am using DM 5.0 I have done several backups and a restore to check it out and it worked fine.
However... After doing an "Enterprise Activation" so I could recieve emails from work. I do a backup and get this error.
Error backing up database(s)
[Location Based Services] 0 of 1 entries retrieved.
I also can not turn off key store. It is asking for a password. I am new to the BB's.

Thanks in advance, sorry to hijack the thread.
Fall back to v4.7 of the Desktop Manager... I did and that solved my problems with the backup... annoying little bug, but I have beaten it for now...
It didn't fix it for me... what it DID do was continue beyond the error so that everything else was backed up... but I still got the errors on the profiles database. #DM50fail
