I wasn't even aware this message existed. The instructions are only long because I explained everything in detail. It's really very simple.

Yeah, at least it exists on my Pearl... lol. because after that I went and looked at the space listed as available on my phone and there's only 29521 bytes left on the device itself... But I dunno why, I don't have much on it!!! The only third party apps are Opera Mini and WeatherEye... I do have calendar stuff listed but it's not a ton of dates to be saved... :/

Pictures, browser cache, etc. You can go to Options >Status >Menu Key >Database sizes and see how much memory your data is using.

Shouldn't photos, videos, ect save to my memory card? That is where they are located when I use my media software from the desktop manager.... Hm, but thank you for showing me the way to check that!

Did you get this number from Options >Status >File Free?

I think it's time to follow the insturctions in the fist post!! Start with a battery pull and see how much memory is free after that.

Yeah, that's where I got it.... Guess that I will have to sit down and take the risk of screwing up sometime.

You'll be fine. You will eventually lose call logs or emails if you don't.

Did you remove the battery?

I haven't done anything yet, I'm at work so I'll have to do this on my days off.

Thanks for this great guide John, it worked like a charm. My only problem after doing this is now my emails look weird in the inbox. I realize that is pretty vague but it doesn't separate them with a line and everything looks compressed. Just wondering if you or anyone would know which file is needed to be replaced to get it back to normal.

Are you sure the "compression" is not a font issue? Options > Screen/Keyboard.

For the line separators... Messages > Options > General Options > scroll down to > Separators = Lines.

We're going to need a little more detail than that. What exactly did you do?

Not really too sure what I moved over but I guess I will just put it all back into the Java folder and start fresh. Should I just remove the files you said to in your guide or are there more that weren't mentioned that should be removed?

Ok, beginning to think I'm an idiot. I'd like to optimize my memory as you spell out, but I can't seem to find the OS to download to my pc from the url you give--

I start here:
BlackBerry Operating System Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ

Click on "T-Mobile USA", which takes me to here:
Unsupported Browser

I click on the "Get Software" next to the 8320, and this opens a new window with "Product Downloads" at the top and asks me for my phone number. I enter my number and click "go."

This takes me to the "Available Downloads" page, at the bottom of which are links to download the handheld software. I click on that link, and it takes me to some page where I can apparently compare and buy a new phone, but I can't find the software.

Probably something stupid on my part, but any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Garrett

@ Garrett, the links work for me...

@ Farlz, I would recommend removing only those files mentioned in the initial post of this thread.

Exclamation I need HELP!

I thought downloaded the OS, I'm freaking out. I can't find the JAVA folder. I've done this all like 3 times:

Software For BlackBerry 8830 Wireless Handheld(TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.322 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.2.322
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.2.176
Software Platform: 3.0.0.76
File name: 8830EFS_PBr4.2.2_rel322_PL3.0.0.76_A4.2.2.176_Spri nt.exe
File size: 70.18MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download Software

I don't know what else to do. I've downloaded this and I have no apploader, shared, or java folder popping up in my Reasearch in Motion folder.

I want to get rid of some crap on my phone... seriously.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
