Red face Do recent contacts get auto-saved as contacts?

Please Login to Remove!

1 of our VIP expects that people whom he is emailing to(Not his Outlook/BB contact), must get auto-saved in his BB as Contacts.

Example: If he is sending an email to his gmail/yahoo address or whatever, will those email addresses get saved as contacts on his BB?

Pls advise.
I actually dont think so, but id like to confirm since its VIP

They do not, in my experience. I don't know what might be possible with any third-party apps. With the stock BlackBerry, recent contacts will be saved in the auto-complete cache and will be presented for selection when composing, if the show recent contacts feature is enabled in the messages options. But these 'recent contacts' in this context have not been automatically saved to the address book.

If the messages app is not presenting recent contacts when composing the message and this is what the user wants, then check the messages app options and see if this is disabled.

Maybe try this:
If you have outlook 2010, there is an automatically generated address book called "suggested contacts". The functionality for outlook is what you want.
However, I dont know, how this list ist generated. If only a contact is added to this list if you send a mail using outlook, then, it is of no use. But, if outlook at every start scans your sent messages, and, updates the contact folder, the blackberry will have the contacts as soon as outlook has been started.

If you have outlook 2010, you will notice, you have a contact folder called "suggested contacts". If you dont have, turn this feature on:
see here for a description:
Turn ON or OFF Suggested Contacts feature in Microsoft Outlook 2010

now, on a Desktop where the user has an installed outlook profile,
open a browser, and login to your bes:
https://ip.addr.of.bes/webdesktop/login
if you have a BES express the default url is:
https://ip.addr.of.bes:3443/webdesktop/login

in the webdesktop, you now are able to add the suggested contacts folder as a contacts folder for the handheld. See enclosed screenshot.

This feature is something only the outlook client is doing, so, as long as outlook is not running, no contacts will be auto-added. But, try it out, its better then nothing (or, you have to get a secretary as knotryrope suggested).

If you are able to access the BES management console, you also should be able to access the blackberry webdesktop.
The Address is the same.

Example:
Blackberry Management console:
https://192.168.10.1:3443/webconsole/login
then, the Webdesktop url is:
https://192.168.10.1:3443/webdesktop/login

login with the active directory credentials of the user in question.

our server are on the ms hosted cloud,
so there is no real chance of firewall blocking it

Use the same url you use for the console of the server, but instad of "webconsoleglogin" use "webdesktop/login"

(You could add the address book also through the management console, but it is easier to find in the users own console)

Then, do that from the Administrator console:
manage user,
click a username,
scroll down to messaging configuration
click the default configuration,
click the "email" tab
scroll down to the bottom of the page.
click "edit user"
Here you are able to assign the user the contact folders which should appear on the handheld.
Check the Suggested Addresses folder.
click continue to edit user information
click save all

Inspite of all ur kind help, we still cant get the webDesktop url.
Its very useful for customers to customize the blackberry, rather than calling the l2/l3 support everytime.

I have contact microsoft, rim every1, still nothing unfortunately. Also, the major issue we have our server are NOT on-prem, they are hosted on microsoft cloud.
Its casuing hell lot of issues.

But, thanks 4 helping me wiht suggested contacts issue, its fully fixed

hosted services can be a bear to deal with as they make a template for all and wont do much for a specific account
