When will tmobile ever release an official upgrade to the bold O.S ? i am tempted to use the unofficial upgrades but am stalling till tmobile's UMA issue is resolved.

You may have to wait a very long time. UMA (specifically UMA handoff to 3G and UMA dropping to GPRS/EDGE) has been and issue on every version I've tested.

I find turning off the transmitter then turning it back on seems to be a quick fix...

Ditto. Although the .593 I'm using now seems the best. Still not as good as my trusty 8320 was.

I'm on tmob w/593 and uma handoff is smoother than my 8320 - which was hardly ever smooth. Weird that someone else had the opposite experience lol

I should have been more specific. You are probably right on the UMA handoff. I really haven't noticed much difference (which is, when leaving my house with UMA while on a call, the call drops at least half the time when switching away from UMA). What I meant was the stability of my UMA connection. My 8320 was a champ in that regard. I've tried several OS 5 builds for my 9700 and none of them have held a UMA connection as well, often dropping to EDGE during a call, and sometimes to GPRS (although not dropping the call). .593 has been the most stable in that regard and seems to hold a connection on my home UMA better than any other build.

Ah yeah - I agree - but I am too ignorant to know what difference it makes. The only time I actually notice it dropping to edge or gprs is when I'm on speaker and the display hasn't dimmed yet. I haven't actually noticed a diff in call quality - but ur right my 8320 would stay in UMA until my wifi died lol

That's what I thought you were saying. I have accepted calls might drop when I leave the house so I prepare the person I am speaking with as I get in the car.

Watching UMA go in and out while in a WIFI area is something that shouldn't happen. I hate having to do it, I find if I turn off the xmitter then turn it back on I seem to remain solid from that point forward.

We upgraded our 8320 to the 9700 and .330 was garbage for UMA>3G or 3G to EDGE, with .593 its almost as good as my 8900, not perfect but livable

I just received my 9700 over the weekend and I have never had a Blackberry before so excuse my ignorance. I checked my OS version and it says v5.0.0.330. I ran the program that came with phone and it didn't upgrade anything. Am I missing something, becuase it seems everyone else is using a much newer OS?

Thanks in advance.

you need to download and install the latest os to your pc in order for dm to install anything to your phone...

the latest os is located at the top of the forum: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

.330 is the most current "official OS" for T-Mobile newer versions haven't been released for our carrier but that doesn't mean you can't use them but you need to follow the directions for upgrading your OS found Here. Don't just upgrade because others have, upgrade if you are having issues.

By the way any idea how often the office OS releases come out? Seems like there are a lot of leaked OS's but I guess those are just beta versions, correct?

Yes leaked OS is usually beta, there are also several official versions out but for other carriers. When will T-Mobile release the official OS for US, who knows but if you care to you can check frequently @ T-Mobile Blackberry updates

Default New Release

Our company was given 5.0.0.586 from TMo recently and we are starting to roll it out to all our 9700's. I would suspect you will see it shortly. I have been using the leaked version for a couple of weeks with no detected issues.

.593 has been the best for UMA to tower hand-offs in my opinion. T-mobile will likely release one operating system through the life of the device. You are much better off just taking the plunge and running beta or other carriers official releases.
