HI

Just came to know that Good acquired JP Mobile, any comments on the market potential and the product offerings coming up in future from Good

Sounds like they are trying to expand their technology to the other mail platforms. This will give RIM a competitor in more than just the Microsoft world (which will most likely be fairly fierce competition from Microsoft, imo). I'm glad to see this, as it will only lead to better things from RIM. This supports RIM OS as well, so that will be quite interesting to see.

Good can't play ball against the likes of Microsoft when the only devices they support are C++-based BlackBerry devices and the frigging Treo.

JP Mobile has a system similar to everyone elses' in that they support several handsets. I'm guessing that Good is finally realizing they can't win against RIM unless they start trying to gain market outside of canibalizing BlackBerry customers.

Just yesterday I was reading somewhere about Good planning to support Domino in the future. Maybe this is how they're planning to do it.

Update: I guess that second sentence was correct.

Good has been supporting PPC devices for a while.

Ah - see - more of the Good™ branding problem - I had no idea they were supporting other devices

Just a little history.

Good has their own device, the G100 to start with, and they still support it. They then were able to completely rewrite the firmware on the 850/857/950/957 devices that let some converts from RIM to save on hardware money as they were ramping up support for the Treos (I look at this step as Good's attempt to lower the conversion cost for customers). Keep in mind that Good requires a different license for the old RIM/Mobitex device vs. Treo/PPC devices. In the last year, the development on supporting PPCs took off as more PPC based PDA/phones surfaced. Now, they have Global Connect that does not require each cellular provider to "subscribe" for email to reach you.
