What apps? If you have desktop install versions of apps added to application loader it will "downgrade" them if they are an older version than what is installed. if you used a 3rd party app backup to restore apps then that could also cause it. You need to remove/move the .alx files that are loading with application loader.

I just installed OS 4.5.0.44 two weeks ago... is there any significant differences between .44 and .55 ? I am very happy with .44, so if no changes, I will stay for now.

.55 is much zippier and overall seems better. I'd upgrade.

Minor bug fixes in .55. .55 is much quicker and seems to be smoother all-around.

You're not going to see new features in these small incremental upgrades. Usually bug fixes and things that may be transparent. They may have improved battery life with minor tweaks or improved media card reading, etc. When the OS is still this new, I recommend upgrading.

My company has the BES set up to do OTA syncing of email and calendar. I had a problem with the DM software changing the service books so all of the OTA syncing was stopped. We got the RIM support guy on the phone to get it fixed. He had me reinstall DM with BIS support - NOT BES support - so that it would not mess with the service books. The downside, I guess, is that I cannot do what John suggests. Every time I reload the OS I have to send a note to my IT guy to get him to set up a new OTA BES activation.

Yes, I've noticed volume drop but, for me, it's not enough to prevent me from upgrading.

I upgraded my 8310 to 4.5.0.55 (with Desktop Manager 4.5.0_b016) and noticed that everytime I connect my BlackBerry, I get an upgrade prompt about three applications.

When I click 'Update Now', however, it tells me that nothing needs to be upgraded. Did I do something wrong? Does anyone know how to fix this?

I've attached the relevant screenshots below.

Nor did I. I did notice that the volume drops back to the default levels when the upgrade is complete, but once I cranked them back up to where they had been previously, I can again blast out my eardrums.

Of course, I had to re-adjust the volume for phone calls, PTT and media seperately as all were set back to defaults.

Couple of questions--informational, not argumentative:

1. When you say that 55 is faster than 52, what exactly is faster? The browser? Everything else seems almost instantaneous with the BB including my 3rd party programs, the camera, etc.

2. Is the BB Maps-ATT problem solved, or do you still have to either install the old 4.2 BB Maps by copying them over to the Java folder, or else install the BB maps separately from the RIM site in order to have the 4.5 maps work with ATT?

3. I always delete the vendor.xml file first, of course, with each new update. But do you still have to go through the process of manually getting rid of the ATT ID in the maps alx (I think that's where it was, but there was something blocking maps with ATT) and also do you still have to get rid of the various vendor IDs in the blackberry.alx file, along with the themes and wallpapers, and delete some of the stuff in the Java folder, as outlined in John Clark's previous instructions on updating a BB OS? Or has all this been taken care of automatically by now?

Thanks very much.

If your device activation does not require a new password to be sent, yes. But I don't know the answer to that question for your BES. They might require a new PW, which would involve the Admin.
