Default CDMA .51 Won't Load!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Ok folks......
I am positive that I am doing this correct but when I follow all of the directions I have read on this and many other forums I can not get app loader to see the new operating system. I have:

1. Installed 8330CDMA_PBv_4.5.0_rel74_PL3.2.0.41_A4.5.0.51
2. I have DM 4.5.0.15
3. I removed vendor.xml

I never get a prompt to upgrade. Quite frankly, this is driving me nuts as I know there is some simple little step that I am missing.....

I have many hours reading forums over the last few days and can't figure this out.

Anybody know what I NEED to do?

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

I am an 8830 user and was able to download with DM 4.2.

I am blaming the DM.

That would be awful. I have read many posts that specifically say to upgrade the Desktop manager to 4.5.

Wipe phone. Make sure you backup first. Then just run DM and it will load the OS on for you. Make sure the correct OS is listed in DM.

First, there is no reason to "wipe phone."

Second, DM 4.5 is not necessary but it's usually recommended to have the latest version unless there's a good reason not to (and there are a few.)

If an upgrade will not load, it's usually due to 2 things:

1. You downloaded/installed the wrong version or for the wrong device model.

2. You need to delete the vendor.xml. If you install DM, then delete vendor.xml then install the OS, you MUST delete vendor.xml AGAIN as it's installed during installation of both pieces of software.

If you mean Desktop Manager then it lists 4.2.....

I tried wiping the phone via the wipe function on the phone.

WAIT!! I see the problem, now!

You are attempting to load the 8330 OS to the 8830. That won't work. You need an 8830 OS. So, it's reason number 1 in my above post.

I see.... well after all of the ridiculous amount of time I spent searching for the upgrade to start with (hours) this is very dissapointing.....

Just for fun I tried it again and it DID see the up grade but it stopped and gave me this message:

"The application can not be loaded because it requires the following applications that are not available:

net.rim.platform.ecmascript"

I'll say it again...you CANNOT load the 8330 OS to the 8830. I've not seen that particular error before.

OK.....

I was able to find .51 for CDMA 8830.....

Downloaded it.

Installed it.

Ran DM.

It found it.

IT INSTALLED IT!!!

Hooray. Now I need to figure out just what I have here but on the surface, it's greatest feature so far is readability on the web and in email. I use a BES at work so will wait to see what happens when they upgrade the server.

Thank you to John Clark for pointing out the problem that was hiding in plain site so well that none of us saw it but him.

New question:

How do I get it back working with the BES at work? It sees the personal email accounts but not the Outlook account. In the past when I needed to reset the BB the it would go thru a slow process of setting itself back up on the server. Not today. I even pulled the battery. No luck. As luck would have it I will not be inthe office next week so I NEED to solve this.

HELP!

If you have a work computer with DM on it that's connected to your corp email then you may be able to start activation. Otherwise, you need to contact your IT department for an activation password.

I do. In fact I am on it at this moment via the VPN. It functions just like I were at my desk.

How do I activate?

Connect to VPN. Plug in BB. Open DM and make sure that it says "Connected" and "Online." Give it a few minutes and EA should start. DM MUST be installed for BES use and your email profile picked up by DM when you open it.
