Default Voice jitter issue after upgrading to 5.0

Please Login to Remove!

On Rogers, after upgrading to 5.0.0.411 and also 464, I encounter intermittent voice jitter issues on 3G on Rogers in the Vancouver area. Basically the conversation will be fine and suddenly start blanking out 2-3 times a second for a few milliseconds each time making it impossible to hear the other person. This goes on for a minute or so then clears up and then starts again randomly.

I've downgraded back to the latest Rogers 4.x firmware to see if the problem is related to 5.0 or it was just coincidental. It sounds very similar to the issue people were having on Telus and Bell but there are no reports of the same issue on Rogers.

Anyone else encounter this or have suggestions on solving it?

Default voice jitter

I have had the same issues after going to 5.0 on blackberry bold. I have to call the person back due to the call quality. Does not happen on every call.

Default Voice Jitter

I've had voice jitter that last from the start of a call until I hang up. Happens once in awhile. Don't know of any fix.

I was having a similar problem with 5.0.0.411, but only when talking over Bluetooth headsets. It was happening on all three headsets I tried, making me think it was an issue with the Bold, and not the headsets. If I turned off the headset, pushing my call back to the handset, the garbled voice went away. When I turned the headset back on, reinitializing the BT connection, it would sound normal again for a while. Then within a few minutes the garbled sounds would start up again. It sounded like the people on the call were talking through a fan..

Today I upgraded my Bold 9000 to OS v5.0.0.509 and was on one long call and didn't experience the problem. I'm hopeful that this new OS might have resolved the issue.

This was just meant as an FYI..

I have experience the same problem. It happens maybe once or twice in 10 calls. I thought there was something wrong with my Bold but I guess not. Hopefully the next os update will help.

Default jitter fixed

I upgraded to 5.0.0.509 and the call jitter is gone. Also the auto wi fi selector is working in this build also. So far no problems noted.

Has anyone who has experienced the fluttering voice issue confirmed whether the other party hears the same while you're speaking to them? I'd have to downgrade if that's the case. Thanks in advance!

Can you all reply if you are on blue tooth when this happens.
UMTS (3G) should not be causing this issue, GSM (2G) yes we see that with co-channel issues.
Thanks

I have the issue and I am NOT on bluetooth. It seems to coincide with being on a call and then having in incoming SMS or email in my case, but I can't conclusively say that yet.

I upgraded the other day to 5.0.0.509 and the voice jitter issue seems to be gone. Have not experienced it yet in two days of use.

Haven't tried bluetooth yet, so all "jittery" voices have been direct on the handset for me so far. May give the official .509 a shot this weekend, assuming the Greek carrier demands the same fine-tuning (or better) as AT&T. LOL

Caronlina, can you confirm you are on 3G when this is happening?
By Jittery does it sound like you/they are underwater(its called worble)?
By your sig, I'm assuming you are on ATT?

ya i've had the same problem up until the .509 beta update. barely happens now but i still get it once or twice a week (7 days). Whereas before i used to get it 4 or 5 times a day. I think its a low reception problem. Not sure though. I recommend upgrading to .509 official. It's a bomb version. Barely any issues for me and the memory is much more manageable then before.

Up until now, I haven't tried looking for the circumstances surrounding the warble. Where I've been located when I've had calls to sound like that, I get a consistent 3G signal. Only on odd occasions do I ever see the phone drop to EDGE near home. I'll take a look at the phone next time the voice quality turns like this. From my perspective, the voice of the other party sounds a lot like the way it does when you speak into a fan where every word gets fragmented.

Haven't had time for it this weekend like I had hoped, but I want to try out the .509 official release and see if it's still present. Yep, I'm on AT&T.

I still have the problem after upgrading to .509. I am not using Bluetooth, and it only happens when on 3G.

Did you do a full device wipe before upgrading or just a straight upgrade?

Mine has experienced the stuttering issue since an early version of OS 5. It still exhibits the behavior on .509. The other party can hear the stuttering when I talk. I have not tried it on Bluetooth yet, and I am almost always on 3G. I've upgraded the OS on my phone many times without wiping.

Edit: If I force the phone to use 2G the stuttering appears to be resolved.

I'm also having the stuttering issue. Same characteristics as mentioned above.

I also notice the audio booster is running a lot more than normal. Anyone else????

Is this happening on all BB Bolds with Release 5? Surely it cannot be, or RIM would not have released the software. If a subset of Bold's have some sort of hardware defect which shows up when Release 5 is loaded, is this grounds for a warranty exchange?

In my case, I did an upgrade, not a wipe. Anyone had success with a wipe? I am still having the problem with .509

I agree, wtf is up with Rim development????
How is it, that that after all this time, there still isn't a release quality os5 from them? I got my bold 9000 at release and while it was a great "phone" (with 4.6) the browser was so outdated and slow as to be unusable. It was a good device with great potential...

With 5.0 they improved the browser drastically but at the cost of call quality (totally unacceptable). How could any of the 5.0 released builds could have made it through "testing" and be deemed good enough for "official" status with any carrier is beyond me. It seems every 5.0 build has major bugs that are immediately noticeable. While I don't expect software to be bug free by any means, I do expect some level of build quality from an "official released" version.

I just read an article today talking about Rims loyalty numbers falling, I couldn't help but identify with the editor on some level.
