non-outlook calendar app that syncs with blackberry?
Please Login to Remove!
So I'm trying to sell my wife from her big "organizer" (paper) book to a blackberry. She needs a good calendar app. that will sync with PC, but it needs to be something lighter, less buggy, and not Outlook. (Trying to use Outlook for -just- the calendar is a pain, and we use Mozilla for Email).
Is there a good free, or very cheap, non-Outlook Calendar app that syncs with blackberry? (a real app, not web-based)
Thanks
/j

aren't those both web-based? I'd prefer something that runs on the local machine (and keeps the data private)

So you want a free desktop based calendar to sync with the BlackBerry.
Any other requirements? Wireless? Bluetooth?

You have way too many requirements.
The suggestions made all work well.
And all keep the data private. You won't find a more secure device than the BlackBerry.

Gee Mr. Saunders, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ask something with "too many" requirements. 8-}
Outlook is a PC-based program that has a calendar and syncs with Blackberry. However, it's a bit buggy, and carries with it a lot of unneeded baggage (like Email, etc). I was hoping there was a lite calendar-only program for the PC that synced with the existing blackberry calendar. No having to enter your life story into Google or Yahoo, no having to pay hundreds of dollars for an enterprise-level solution (like Lotus).
I have found, and been quite happy with, similar "single-purpose" apps and BB apps in the past, and thought it wouldn't be hard to find one similar for calendaring. For example, I discovered that for an address book I can use Excel - what's simpler than that? Perhaps someone has written "PC Calendar for Blackberry". I'd happy pay a few bucks if it works well.
But to tell me my only choices are Google, Yahoo, or Lotus, and I'm crazy to ask beyond that, I just don't get it. Are you just having a bad day? 8-}

"And all keep the data private. You won't find a more secure device than the BlackBerry." No offense - but if you think your data is "private" once it gets synced to Google, you need to read the mainstream media more often.
and NJ - I never said "free". I said "free or cheap". Please don't put words in my mouth.

jeff, if you read this thread, you'd notice it is 'sanders', not 'saunders'.

Seriously, you moderators are really harsh (both of you) is this really such a ridiculous request, or are you just having a bad day? 8-}

RIM only allow syncing to Outlook, Yahoo, or Lotus with Desktop Manager, and Google sync is a 3rd party app for the BB itself.
So part of the problem is RIM not expanding its options to include Windows Calendar (Vista only as Windows 7 gets rid of it for Windows Live Calendar.
So there you have it.
RIM allows 3 options : outlook, yahoo, lotus

Thanks Midnightdraven - I put up with the flamers because I know that there are some people like you who want to share real help on these forums. I do appreciate your input, and didn't realize it was an issue of BB support.
AFAIK, Lotus is still an enterprise-level app that's way overkill for mail only. I don't see it, are you suggesting there IS a "small" "cheap" lotus for just calendar?
Otherwise, (sigh), I'll look at the on-line apps, but I don't quite get what you're saying about google. Are you saying that to use the Google PC interface I need the Google calendar on the BB? Or that the Google app is BB only?
I'm surprised though, that no aspiring programmer decided he didn't like what was available, and wrote his own app that 'looks' like outlook or Yahoo to the BB.
/thanks
/j
PS - Does it work with Outlook Express? Outlook 2003?

Well, glad you are happy now.
I guess there isn't that much of a market for a free (or cheap) calendar app.
Best of luck.
Lotus Organizer is a standalone (not free or cheap) application.

What? Flamers? A couple of us make very very valid suggestions, and we're flamers?

Jsanders - your last 3 posts have added nothing constructive, I'd complain to the moderators about you except, well.... (sigh).
I pay for shareware all the time, btw. I'm a big fan of recognizing all -constructive- efforts.
Please stop posting though. With all the posts in this thread from you and NJ, no one else is likely to read down far enough to help me. 8-{
Have a great day!

I think your best option is to remember all the appointments in your head. No seriously, hear me out. It meets all the criteria:
- It's secure (hard to hack a brain).
- It's free/cheap.
- Not web based.
- Runs locally (I assume your brain is attached to the rest of your body).

God Bless all of you. Kindness can go very far.
If anyone's interested in the correct answer to this question - look here... (fix the dots). Google seems to be the way to go (sigh)

Excellent. So post #2 here, posted by JSanders, had the correct information.
In case you missed it, it read:
