Default Finding Satellites

Please Login to Remove!

I went on a trip yesterday and decided to test the 880 vs. the in car system. Once the 880 found the satellites, it worked great (in some ways better than the in car system). However, I have found that it often takes longer for the 8800 to Read GPS than the in car system and have had several situations where the device could not get a GPS reading when the car did. Sometimes a question of clouds, tall buildings or beneath an overhang. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a difference in the capability based on size/strength of the 8800 to get a reading vs other systems? What else can cause this?

The car system probably has an external antenna, as many built in or independent GPS systems have. Your BlackBerry antenna is built into the device and reception is probably much more noticeable on the smaller device.

The in-car system will have an external antenna, it's GPS receiver is probably always on and keeps it's fix.

The BB's GPS in buit-in and needs to receive through the windshield. I've seen coated windshield block the satellite signal.
