Default Might be a stupid question but....

Will the Blackberry not turn on unless there is a SIM card inserted? I went to sell my phone to a guy on Craigslist today and it would not boot up. Today after getting my new phone I did a security wipe on the Blackberry and took out my memory card and booted it back up. Came up just fine, then I took the battery off and the SIM card out and but it back in the original box.

So when I met the guy tonight to sell him the phone it wouldn't boot up at all. I know the battery had charge still because I had just taken it off the charger earlier today. I pulled the battery out and put it back in and the red light came on and went off but phone never booted. So the kid took it anyway and said he would go to a Verizon store tomorrow.

I have the SIM card here at home so if it is the case the phone needs that before booting up I can meet him tomorrow and give it to him. But if there is something else wrong I might have to do the right thing and give the guy a refund. Just sucks cause that phone was working fine earlier today and now it seems to be messed up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That's weird. No, the device doesn't need a SIM to boot up.

I really didn't think so just seemed so weird that the phone wouldn't boot up at all. Really hope Verizon can get that straightened out for him would hate to have to give him a refund.

Sounds like it nuked or bricked...either way, not good. If it's bricked, you're SOL and you need to replace it. I have not yet seen anyone (one exception) unbrick a 99xx.

Yeah I am going to meet the guy at the Verizon store on Thursday and make those fools replace the device for him. They won't do it for him since he is not a Verizon customer, so I figured the least I could do was meet him up there since he bought a nuked phone from me. Feel shady giving him a device that does not work, when it worked just fine before I pulled the battery out of the phone.
