Default Blackberry Enterprise Transporter question

Please Login to Remove!

We are about to perform some migrations from one Blackberry Domain to another using the Transporter, and I am curious if anyone know what happens to the old Software Configuration data once the device is moved to the new domain. RIM's documentation says that the transporter doesn't migrate that data, so I am curious what will happen to it? Any help is appreciated.

I guess in one sense the answer to my question is obvious...nothing will happen.. but what will happen to the software configuration data when the device lands on a new domain with a new software configuration, will it merge the data, overwrite the data....etc. Thanks

The only thing that transporter does is to move users/devices. All the rest (IT policy, software config etc.) is not moved. You have to recreate manually or export/import.

In the case of software configs, you first have to add the applications to the new system, then create the software configs and finally assign them to groups (or users).

If the target system is configured exactly like the source system, this works well. If you have a different software config on the target system, apps will be uninstalled/installed accordingly, so the device matches the new software config.

Thanks for the quick reply. When you say the target system needs to be "configured exactly like the source system", to what specifically are you referring? Are you only referring to the software configuration itself or are you including BES version? Thanks again for the reply.

I am referring to software config and IT policy. BES version can differ. Transporter can be used to upgrade. We have upgraded from BES 4.1 to 5.0 via Transporter. Before using Transporter I have created all groups, IT policies and software configs that existed on 4.1. Only then I have moved people over with Transporter (first moved some test users).
